When i bought my car i was only given one key. I think the time has come to buy a new key as a spare. Is it a VW job? What does it cost price wise?

Im in the same boat. Apparently an auto locksmith should be able to supply and code a key within an hour. Price is about £100-ish.

I had a spare VW key done at my local independent specialist, overall the whole thing costed me about £50-ish rather than £250 the VW dealers wanted!
If you have the earlier MK5's (<2007) most likely it would have the immo4 system which apparantly is easier to code than the later ones. I bought a blank key off eBay with the immobiliser chip and electrics for about £10, had the key cut at my local locksmith for £10 and took it to my local indy to code which costed £30 and in the end it works great.

£100 + vat for the new key, then £50 to code it - main dealer.
You have to show the V5 and two types of ID with address as proof you are the legal owner. Came in under 3 days if I remember correctly, was expecting it to be around 10-14days.
Had one don't a couple of weeks ago.
