Had my winters wheels, Ronal Zolders, put on today and needed balancing. Went to R-Tec in St Albans as they fitted me in at the last minute. Curiosity got the better of me and upon closer inspection, AFTER I GOT HOME :fighting: , there are scuffs on the wheels. Not only that but the summer wheels, OZ Ultraleggra's, they took off have also been scuffed. It looks like the scuffs have been made by white tool marks, I rubbed some of the scuffs off which has left primer showing through. :congrats: :fighting:
How would this happen? I've read a couple of threads on here about Costco but they weren't fitting tyres, just balancing the wheels. Beggers belief. What's more annoying they had a couple of new Bentleys sat in the workshop being worked on. Does my car deserve less careful treatment???
I will be calling on Monday to air my grievances :mad:

Had one of my winters scraped doing the exact same thing today mate... I'm not really too fussed as their condition wasn't great and I'm plastidipping them anyway... but still, seems they just don't give a f*ck.

Wish you fellas lived closer to me and I would fit them with out damage to them...get some pics up of the damage

The days of tyre fitters damaging wheels should be a thing of the past.... They should use tools which don't touch the rim of the alloy!

the machine I use is hydraulic and locks the head so it won't move..if you have it set close it will catch when you lever the tyre of the rim..A tyre machine is only good as the person using it

I go to wheels in motion chesham... Brilliant, worth the 20mile round trip.

There's a place local to me called Tyre Barn which is the only place I take my car.
They've tracked my GTI 4 or 5 times, never damaged anything, done both my Merc alloys and my RC's with zero damage, always friendly, let me mull about in the workshop, and over the course of the ownership on my TDI they'd changed the tyres probably 10 or 12 times in total and never had a problem.
As Andy says the machines lock in place and if you damage a wheel it's because you're an idiot! :party:

I just had a couple of 205/40s fitted to my 8.5" Fat Fives by Top Marks Tyres in Hooley. No scuffs, even on freshly painted rims. Would definitely recommend them!

It really is annoying. I actually used the words "Please be careful with the wheels as I have had to have them repaired numerous times after having tyres fitted". I was assured that they would be careful.
Needless to say they had to foot a bill for £60 to have a smart repair done! One of the wheels they wouldn't take responsibility for but a bit of elbow grease put it right.
Kwik Fit - Cotteridge, Birmingham. I thought a national brand would have a reputation to uphold + the prices were competitive.

Bought 3 sets of wheels and 4 sets of tires from Rtec in St.Albans over the past few years and never experienced this :confused:
From your description sounds like it was definitely damage done there but by not checking before you left you leave yourself open for them to deny it as it wasn't raised at the time :sick:
Good luck in getting it sorted, I've found them to be a nice bunch of guys over the years :happy2:

I've had dealings with them before re wheels. I've heard many bad things and my experience backed it up! Awful place, but guess you know that now!

This is the big worry I have now with the new GTD. It's my first car with diamond cut faces, and I'm extremely anxious that should I have a puncture, or when I come to replace the tyres, my lovely alloys are going to have their diamond cut faces scored with the resulting damage that brings !

Changing tyres on diamond cut alloys is the same as normal alloys as long as your careful and set the tyre machine up properly
