Noticed this earlier in the week. When I brake, it makes the same sound as when it has been raining and the brakes have rust on them. This happens only at particular speeds (braking from 20-35mph). At higher speeds, I guess the combination of road and engine noises masks it. At lower speeds, I reckon it's because I don't need to apply the brakes as much.
There appears to be sufficient pad material left. No idea how to check about disc thickness or whether there's anything else causing it.
Suggestions?

could be some thing that has lodge it self in one of the calipers ie a small stone

^^^This. Might be "sumat" caught between the disc and dust guard.

i had this on my brakes too. I assumed it was just the fronts so i changed the pads and discs but the sound was still there. I checked the backs and they were down to the metal!
Get the back ones checked.

Rear pads were replaced a couple of months ago. Any way I can check if there is something between pad and disc without taking the wheel off?
-
Are there any score lines on the discs, or what you can see of on the pad?
-
Time for new discs

There is around a 1mm lip on the rear discs and around 1.5-2mm on the fronts (both inside and outside). This is a fingernail guestimation so might be wrong.
How much lip should there be?
