Title: Edition 30 how much for a forged engine
Post by: Mk5jake on November 26, 2013, 01:16:36 pm
Hi there, not sure if this is in the right section so I'm sorry if it's not

How much would a forged engine rebuilt cost roughly on my edition 30, is it just rods pistons bolts and barings that have to get done or are there any other bits you have to change, and what power will it take safely ? The reason I ask is I'm looking to go stage 2+ Soon and possibly higher but I don't like the thought of the engine being at its Limit

Sent on my iPhone so sorry if it doesn't make sense

Any help much appreciated

Thanks

Steve Jnr at Statllers is running 500bhp with a LOBA L04XX turbo on his ed30 DSG.

It's on the limit of what the engine can take, but would you REALLY need more power than that?

You could do Stage 2+ then WMI, which should be more than enough to break traction often

Could someone tell me more about wmi, I've herd about it but don't know a great deal if I'm honest,  I would only want to be between 400 & 450 max but would want to do a fair few track days pushing the car Hard and with the forged internals it just gives me that pice of mind if that makes sense lol

Cheers

John (Hurdy) can tell you more about WMI as he has run it on several cars (inc his current R).

It is a simple system that injects a water & methanol mix from a tank (usually in the boot - see Hurdys build thread) into the inlet manifold, as well as cleaning the valves (that get dirty) it cools the cylinder and as methanol is very flammable it means you can advance ignition timing and make more power safely  :happy2:

Hurdy - does that sum it up?

Yes, that sums WMI up nicely.

400-450bhp will not be achieved without going for a bigger turbo though Jake.

Ryan @ GarageMidnight is also running a stock GTI engine at just over 500bhp.
Was at 450bhp before the latest map.

How does it cope with 500bhp? I don't buy that.

Sorry by stock I meant what he started with was a standard gti k03 not ko4

Obviously it's running a bigger turbo but I'm sure internals are standard by maybe wrong.
And I got my figures wrong he is at 550bhp

He has a build thread here

Yeah what I meant to the OP is that there isn't a need to forge it unless he wants 500+ bhp

I`ve heard of engines running big power on stock internals. BUT really anything over 400bhp and I would def change pistons, rods valves etc etc to be safe.

The ED30 is good for 400+ bhp. My first concern would be the head gasket and bolts as mine began to lift at 440bhp on the ED30.
