Title: Bluetooth Module Help
Post by: Georrge on November 27, 2013, 04:23:51 pm
Hi everyone, I need some help!

I started to put in my bluetooth module in today (part no. 5n0035730c), and the wiring kit I used can be found by searching '221308256716' on ebay.
I plugged it in, and started up the RNS510 and searched for devices on my phone; nothing came up. I then pressed the 'phone' button on the RNS510 to see if anything happens. Normally pressing 'phone' would just mute the unit. Instead of muting the music, it displayed this:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fae356%2Fgeorgek1993%2FIMG_5072_zps0936eca5.jpg&hash=4c039a71d2bcf1350585e25f3b815b1d0f2c5639)

So the RNS510 obviously knows the bluetooth module is plugged in, it just isn't giving off a signal for devices to find. Now this leads me to think that something needs to be plugged into this hole:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fae356%2Fgeorgek1993%2F7118f81a-f7c3-4122-8a7d-1450cab3aa65_zpsae5d2a26.jpg&hash=57bed98a7599c27238d4975b780461c88d031234)

There is nothing else on the wiring kit to be plugged in, so I had a quick look at the other wires that came out of the RNS510. One of them was the GPS antenna thing that plugs into the blue hole on the back of the RNS510, this was the same size hole as on the module, so I gave it a shot to see if that would work but nope, still no bluetooth signal  :sad1:
What am I doing wrong? What was interesting though is having the GPS antenna plugged into the module the sat nav was still able to locate where my car was

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!  :happy2:

*NOTE* - This is what I believe to be the GPS antenna:

do you have a highline dash?
You will also require a phone antenna, like the one in the kit below

what phone do you have?

Midline I believe!

Yeah I just ordered that antenna for £15 so hopefully this is all I need, and I have an iphone 4s.

Cheers!

well if you have midline it isn't going to work

you need a highline to pair the phone

even if you do have a highline, it still won't work with the iphone unless they are jailbroken

Hi Eddie,

Why wouldn't it work with midline? surly an RNS510 is an RNS510? And I believe I have the highline, just googled what the difference is; the midline won't show you if a door is open, but the highline will for example?

And why does the iphone have to be jail broken? I am happy to jailbreak it if need be though, used to have it jail broken a while back anyway :)

Thanks!

That module uses rsap( remote sim access profile) which iphone does not support --- a highline display will show an image of the whole car with a door open and I think it's needed to pair the phone so it can actually show the progress of the pairing

The highline does more than show you which door is open

The phone kit you bought is the top end one, and has its own Phone Menu in the Highline

To pair a phone you need to be in the highline Phone menu, and you will confirm that you want to pair a phone and it gives you a pin code which you need to enter on the phone.

So No Highline means you can't pair it

Eddie,

I just went a checked, I do not have the highline  :sad1:
Looks like I'm wasting all my time here haha, and trust Apple to be annoying with the pairing thing anyway!

What module/antenna do I need to use with a midline and an iphone 4s?

Thanks so much
