Title: Got one - Edition 30
Post by: Matt112 on December 02, 2013, 08:30:37 pm
On to my third Mk5 and its finally the one I have been dreaming of. After driving my old Mk5 TDI for 2 years and putting 35,000 on it I finally manned up and bought an Edition 30 Yesterday.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm9.staticflickr.com%2F8251%2F8631310383_0013ce2371_z.jpg&hash=0641b9a3747ab53f113068a6ef6249d4d5510ccc) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/matt112/8631310383/)
Mayb i will get a stationary pic soon? (http://www.flickr.com/photos/matt112/8631310383/) by Purplejellyo (http://www.flickr.com/people/matt112/), on Flickr

My old car. Was stupidly low spent more time fixing broken sumps than driving it. Definitely will not be stancing the new one I am going for performance and handling mods with looks coming second, although the Edition 30 looks ridiculously good in its standard form.

Here is my new one picked it up yesterday and I love it, completely different car to drive than the old diesel I have been used to.

Sorry about the phone pictures will get some better ones this weekend when its had a propper wash.

Specs on the car:
07
45k
Highline clocks
Ipod connection
hands free

And a few other bits and pieces.

Car is laced with stone chips and needs a cambelt and water pump so thats where the money will be going first of all.
Just bought two new tyres as well so mods will be on hold until the end of january I would expect.

Nice one Matt! Your old car looks Familar. It's so funny I'm in exactly the same boat. Gone from an A3 on air to a Red 3 door ED30 as well. My first things have been the same 12 months tax, MOT, 4 new tyres as well! Need to get cambelt & water pump & DSG oil done in the new year as well!

Will keep an eye out on this one  :happy2:

Thanks lads, absolutely chuffed to bits with it. Like I say its madness coming from a 100bhp tdi to to this, i finally understand the true meaning of understeer  :driver:!

Got a fair few mods in the pipeline, want to get it running 300+ but I want to get the car ready for it before I just jump in and do it. On first impression to me I think it understeers ridiculously and I find the brakes to be average, wouldnt like to use them to be stopping once mapped anyway.

First mod will probably be eibach sportlines or the h&r would like some KW coils but I dont have the money right now. And the spray the wheels black maybe... release my inner chav.

Well treated the Golf to two new Dunlop Sportmaxx on the front to match the rears fairly impressed with them although I will be going Michelins next time.
Only other mod has been some osram nightbreakers and a stubby aerial lol. Until today when these showed up, cant wait to fit them this weekend. There only V1's but I just couldn't stretch any further, they will do me for what I want.

Well done fella, a worthy and nice upgrade for sure. One I nearly made myself to the MK6 GTI but I don't earn enough paper to run a TSI/TFSI anymore  :rolleye:

Will it be as scene as your previous MK5? Keep it trim and in line if you do, these can look stunning subtly modded   :happy2:

I don't really to be honest ha ha, its costing me a fortune but its worth it. Nah no scene stuff going on this time, im bored of messing around with wheel fitment and camber and rolling arches and dragging across the floor lol

Yeah I plan on steering clear of that route! Enjoy the drivability too much! Get a few more mods on her and she will be a dream.

Funny you say that because I couldn't wait to get mine on and had to put them on tonight ha ha! Cant wait wont wait!

Night and day difference the transformation from the stock suspension, handles so flat round the corners its mad, just need to learn its limits! Rides nicer than stock not half as crashy, absolutely chuffed. Only thing is the front might be a bit too low and its scraping on the arches I assume its on the arch liner screw. Once I'm happy with the height will hopefully get booked in for an alignment next week.

:congrats: I'm a massive fan of KWs, had V2s on my A3 before, wish I never got rid & got air  :scared: Yeah I don't want mine dragging along the floor either, hopefully with H&R ARBs & fully polybushed it'll drive sublimey well.

H&R, FARB and a RARB
Bought them from DPM, ordered them sunday received today, kept up to date on the process what more do you want. Might put the rear on tomorrow and then fit the front saturday if I can get on a ramp dont fancy doing the front on the driveway had enough with the coilovers last night lol.

Coils have settled in nicely absolutely over the moon with them was unsure as to how much difference the ARB's were gonna make. Was gonna fit them both tomorrow on a ramp because I know the front is a pain from previous experiences lol. Backs very easy so thought I would put it on tonight while I was bored. Went with the 28mm front and the 24mm rear roll bars, and they are very heavy compared to stock. Put the rear on, on the soft setting and went out for a drive. It was damp outside but the difference is very noticable didnt think the handling would be much better but im chuffed! Cannot wait to get the front on tomorrow and go for a propper drive. Lift of oversteer here I come!

 Here's a nice picture  :happy2:

Front ARB also fitted (on the driveway) what a nightmare, it nearly broke me so I broke it by cutting it in half with a grinder  :jumping: Would of been so much easier if I could of got it on the ramp ohwell its fitted now. Got an alignment booked in for wednesday. Roll bars have made a crazy difference, struggle to get it to understeer or oversteer both set on soft it just feels so balanced, I can take corners much faster  :driver:

One from saturday after finishing.

Well been busy buying stuff.

Bought a daily, got fed up of putting motorway miles on the gti and I got fed up of putting fuel in it... Do 60 miles a day.
mk3 TDI put 5 thou on it, shes a dream. Bought coilovers with the intention of decking it, changed my mind and sold them a day later thankfully.

Was supposed to be saving for more important mods but when these came up in the market place I couldn't resist. A pair of cobra suzuka pro carbon buckets, bought them off Shaun thanks mate. Fitted them and out came the back seats while I was on. Massive weight saving as you can imagine, transformed the car and the fact that the seat holds you in place helps to drive a lot quicker.

So that just leaves me to fit all the brakes. bleed them. Fit TT console bushes and then finally alignment and I can be back to driving it. In two minds whether or not save for a clutch and a diff, or get a stage one map and then save for a clutch and a Diff will see how I get on.

Car looks so nice.. In the market for a Mk5 now too... Im irish and I dont think if seen any Edition 30's here for whatever reason. How much do the ARB's set you back for both? Will be running air aswell so want it to be nice and comfotable... Had mk4 on air without arb on front and it wasnt nice and wears out bearings.

Interested to hear about the ARB's - will be having a set fitted to mine soon. Is there a reason you went for the larger 28mm front, 26mm rear H&R set-up, over the 26mm front, 22mm rear?

Looking great!
Please let me know if the seats come up for sale

Thanks Mike, Seats wont be going anywhere for a while just yet

Awesome stuff! Didn't know you'd done so much to it, and it's hardly the nail that was described at Cumbria VAG :happy2:
I'm definitely going down the performance route with my MK5 rather than air and wheels like the MK4
Ayup buddy, nice to see you on here. It looks alright from a distance lol paint needs a bit of attention.. Be alright once yippy has given it a detail  Its the best way can't be arsed with stance.

Thanks Tracey its coming along. Think they were about £375 can't remember the exact price. The ARB's are set to hard all round and the front one is just about bearable not much ride quality left to be honest with you.

Looking Good :happy2:
Good work Matt, brakes look awesome dude.
Thanks boys, aye im yet to try the brakes yet Nathan should get em bled up tomorrow will let you know how they are

Cheers Dave, its getting a bit more interesting if anything. The ARB's are absolutely quality, difference is night and day. It takes corners flat, its hard to oversteer and the understeer is masively reduced just keeps gripping. I was unsure which set to get to, went for the bigger set based on other people's reviews really, some people were worried about the loss of comfort which I wasn't bothered about. Like I say there both set to stiff, the back is fine but the front is a bit harsh. I know a lot of people dont fit the front but I think it needs it.
