Please wait til i don my flamesuit...
I know it's the internet, and there are no 'rules' as such. But it does my head in time and time again when you see grown up people (on the outside anyway) who cannot spell simple words or have a basic grasp of English grammar.
I am not talking about non-English speaking folks. Most of us Brits don't speak a 2nd language so we can hardly complain about foreigner people on here using our language.
By I am more than untitled to speak my opinion on folks that don't know what basic words are. My Golf never came with under seat draws. Nor will it ever have them fitted. VW never offered underseat draw storage!! :stupid:
Not did they offer Omanty wheels, on any car!
There they're their, I'm not freaking out. Nor am I anally OCD about every word I speak or type.
As Peter a Griffin says: it really grinds my gears! :fighting:
This is just a quick post. I intend on updating it with examples of stupidity from the internet (I'm not intending on solely bashing the forum users. ;-)
Before I go, I know there's a time and place for, "I can has cheezburgers?" And "o rly?" I love a good meme but these are intentional misspellings!
Please feel free to post things you find on the interweb that question people's IQ level and if they need a dictionary thrown at them.
-
That post wasn't perfect...prepare for a flaming!

Edit the third paragraph before anyone sees!

I found the above example on a popular Golf forum so took the opportunity to correct it...

Too late
-
3rd 4th and 5th words are incorrect.
-
Nuff said
-
Oops. Too late, peeps have spotted them.
-
This is a very emotive subject, one which some peeps will love you for and there's those who'll hate you for it!
As for me I like Queens English as it should be.
-
There's only one thing that winds me up... You don't bruy things so why do so many people say "just brought some new wheels" ??
-
There is a guy on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/user/jacksfilms) who does this exact thing, and is very funny whilst doing it. "I can't sand this you bich"

My Spelling and grammar is crap on interweb sites... just can't be bothered to check it over, as long as I can get the gist of a post, it's all good.
The only one that annoys me (I have no idea why), is "brought" and "bought"...
-

I'm usually forgiving as well. But drawers has 7 letters in it. The number of times I see people posting up -
I'm looking to fit under seat draws...
My Ikea draws only lasted 3 months... (Friend on Facebook).
:stupid:
-
One that pisses me off is “heighth”. No. Just no.
-
Their, there, they're.
To, too, two.
We're were, where, wear.
I'm also going to keep this short to reduce the chances of flaming. Within reason, I agree. Slack grammar and poor spelling places the burden on the reader rather than the person who wants to be read. However, it can be taken too far. The rule on not ending a sentence with a preposition “is the sort of English up with which I will not put.”
Less Churchillian, but still a favourite: Grammar is the difference between knowing your sh*t and knowing you're sh*t.
-
Totally agree with the above. I can accept the odd mistake in spelling now and then as long as it's a seperate/one off occurance. But people that have it in they're head that word's are definately spelled a sertain way, get my blood boiling.
Plural's of word can always be safely spelt (it seems) by adding 's to anything. :-S
-
Yes, I can see a place for Google Translate.
Sh*t written translated to English
All at the push of a button!

The one that seems to be sneaking in under the radar is....defiantly and definitely. I believe this to be an autocorrect butchery syndrome. :fighting:

Definately/definitely
Seperate/separate
Occurance/Occurrence
Untitled/Entitled
I've been slipping a few common offenders in my previous posts.

My car is loosing boost. :fighting:

My way of viewing it is, if you can read what the poster means and understand it then what's the actual problem.
people complaining about grammar is one of my biggest hates. People who mix up your/you're annoy me but not as much as the people who take time out of their day to correct them
Got nothing better to do????
On another forum I use if you pick on peoples grammar or spelling you get a ban.....
-
i totally agree. i don't tend to capitalise my posts but i do ensure my spelling, grammar and punctuation are largely correct.
i think people who write "definately" should be removed from the gene pool.

Diarrhoea is quite a difficult word to spell. It's easier to smear it than spell it.
-
My thoughts are if you don't like it don't read it

Your / You're and knowing when to use the former or latter!
Every time I see a 'your welcome' on facebook / works email, I shudder. My welcome is what??! :fighting:

Unless you from 'Merica. Think they don't spell it with an 'o'.

Could of/would of instead of could have/would have is one of my biggest pet hates. It seems to be becoming more and more prevalent too.
