Errr, great....

BUT, it would of been nice to see a VWNavi reference in the above post. Especially the VWNavi member CamelUK who alongside myself and a couple of other members have spent a long time researching this. CamelUK has also wasted a fair bit of cash on VW parts.

Please give credit where its due.

There is a guide which CamelUK has made and a topic on VWNavi thats 18 pages long. The guide has all the parts you need and a how to with picture. If someone pm's me I will send the link or email you it. This is only because his website may be overloaded if I just post the link.

The Kufatec kit will not show the yellow guidelines (unless they've revised this since I last looked) and is also considerably more expensive than the OEM parts from VW will cost you.

OKay.....now nice and slowly.....give us a guide of costs and step-by-step instructions.

Last I heard over at vwnavi, no one had managed to get any of the kits to work in a mk5.

Lol I used to read all RNS threads until about August. Then the site went down and I haven't bothered to check since.

Soo....gonna cost around £250 for parts and requires some hacking away at the boot and some dodgy wiring!  :scared:

No problem.

He could of quite easily kept it quiet. Just like a Spainish (ceramicax) & Russian (TallioN) member have on VWNavi.

Approx cost is £250 plus a few repair wires. The following parts are needed...

Post by: stealthwolf on September 16, 2009, 11:05:09 pm
What would dealers charge for this if they could do it?

I don't mind wiring but I'm so cack-handed at the mechanical stuff that I'd probably bugger up the chopping off of the boot.
Title: Re: MK6 rear camera fitted to my MK5 golf!!!
Post by: JPC on September 16, 2009, 11:21:17 pm
Think of how bad you might think you are stealth, times that by 3.142 and that how much a crap job the dealers would do. IMO of course. At pazz...so the "control unit" side of things is all taken care of by the camera unit itself?

That's certainly something I gathered reading the thread over at vwnavi, which means the rest is just wiring.

As for dealers, not all do a bad job but I guess with time limitations, they'd be a bit rushed.

Hmmm....anyone wanna offer to fit mine if I pay them?

So, power wise, how is this fused? does the fusebox need to be modified? i would assume it would

cutting, chopping and installing i can do.... electrics are not my strong point :ashamed:

If you use the proper 'repair wires' you can fit them directly to the fuse panel so it looks a pukka job.

Sorry I should of mentioned the "ULM" part. But if your techy at VW knew what he was doing he would of completed the part number for you.  THe other version is for Japanese only cars.

Its pretty easy to create the two looms which are required. I've got this far, just need the penny's for the camera unit.

Just invovles a bit of splicing into wires, soldering insultating.

At pazz...so the "control unit" side of things is all taken care of by the camera unit itself?

Yes, thats right. Because all the Kufatec (mk5 golf) kits used a control module we presumed the VW part would be on ETKA. So we spent a while searching through the latest ETKA updates for a MK6 control unit. Of which we never found.

It wasnt unit a member called golfgti5 managed to obtain a wiring diagram from his local VW tech; albeit in dutch! And even without google translate the diagrams alone showed us that there was no control module for the MK6 RVC (rear view camera). The video out was already RGB signal and went straight into the RNS-510.

For those who like wiring diagrams heres the english variant courtesy of lala30 on VWNavi.

So, power wise, how is this fused?

The wiring diagram I mentioned in the post above shows that the MK6 uses a 5A fuse (component SC16). Could do this a few ways. Including tapping into the original fuse box in the footwell. Or finding another live???

EDIT: Just remembered I have this in my bookmarks which is a DIY guide to adding a 5A into the footwell fusebox.

The only bit that needs to be cut is the rear wiper motor leg? Nothing else needs to be changed? (excluding wiring)
Cheers

From what I've seen you need to cut the inner skin of the tailgate.

I have read through the link you sent me and all I could see was the wiper motor leg. Does anyone know what exactly needs to be done as I dont want to be chopping my car to bits!

Perhaps you should read the guide again

Only chopping involved is....

- Squaring off a section of the boot lid inner lining
- One arm of the Rear Wiper motor
