Title: New clutch without DMF
Post by: northyracing on December 04, 2013, 09:28:13 pm
Can I get an uprated or just new standard clutch without having to do the flywheel, my current clutch is spot on just thinking of a remap but been told it can kill the clutch just don't want a massive bill of new clutch and flywheel

If you're planning power you may as well upgrade all components.. However you can get another clutch disc and pressure plate, to match your existing flywheel without a probem.

just had Alex at AKS fit an upgraded Helix clutch and new DMF, car had done 70k when it started slipping as there was some were on the DMF when it was removed, lasted 60k on Revo Stage 1, i put a Sachs in my rocco but kept original DMF

personally i waited until it started to slip and then changed it but each to their own

You won't 100% know if you need a new dmf until it's inspected on removal.  Ed30 I did last week was slipping, but showed no signs the dmf was goosed until the box came off and there was excessive play.

So its just a 50/50 chance then really mine has only done 69k and seems ok but could need doing. If i could get away with just a clutch what would you reccomend alex just for stage 1 map and how much would i be looking at

Be looking at a Helix kit.  Organic drive plate so it still pulls away nicely.  Prices are around £500 shipped with bolts and slave cylinder.

If it helps, I've done 40K on stage 1+ and no clutch issues, now on 90K.  Agree with the comment from Wigit though, I'd wait until it slips then address the problem, you might be fine ?

Just didnt want the big bill of dmf and clutch so was just thinking of doing maybe an uprated clutch itself just to save the slipping
