Title: minor scratch filler for LA7T - United Grey
Post by: Degudodger on December 05, 2013, 10:13:44 pm
What is the best coloured filler polish for LA7T - United Grey pain. On my last Golf (Graphite Blue) i used Poorboys Black hole to fill minor scratches but it looks like they do anything for lighter shades of grey paint.

Any suggestions  :happy2:

Are you sure. United Grey is considerably lighter in colour

Poorboys black hole is a glaze
It doesn't "remove" anything.
It can be used on any colour paint. The effect will be the same. It works the same on white paint as it does on black paint as it does on rainbow paint.

The difference you're seeing is due to the colour of the paint and the differences in the reflection of the light.

If you can catch your nail in the scratch you will not likely be able to remove it. With machining or hand polishing using the correct pad and more importantly an actual polish or compound rather than a glaze - you can remove minor or RDS (random deep scratches) as they're called or at the least often mask them by rounding the rough/sharp edges of the scratch down on a molecular level.

However as I mentioned if you can catch your nail in it generally it will still be visible from at least some angles in some lights..

Hi Jay,

Sorry i should have been a bit clearer

On my previous car i had a number of scratches which i masked/filled/blended using poorboys blackhole and i want to do the same on my current car which has a lighter coloured paint. If that makes sense

Yes mate, that makes sense.

Are you talking about actual scratches EG where it's been caught against a bush or are you referring to the general swirl marks on the vehicle?

G3 Scratch Remover (green bottle available in halfords) is quite good for genuine removal of localised scratches.. It feels very gritty but it's a diminishing abraisive so works down. It's hard work but would get the results you want.

The effect of the Blackhole will be the same however due to the colours of the car and the way in which a black car reflects light versus a grey car or a pink or an aubergine car, may appear different.

Ditch the Poorboys and get an actual proper polish or compound on there ;)
