Title: Jacker's Tornado GTI - Previously owned my AMD Technik
Post by: Jacker on December 06, 2013, 09:45:22 pm
Well.. I think it's about time I create a thread!

A quick intro: I bought my baby in August after bartering with the previous owner about the price for over 2 weeks!

She's a Tornado Red beaut and only had 26,000 on the clock. This was backed up with all old MOT's aswell!

She had a few faults on her, hence me being stubborn over the price I was willing to pay. This was because of my lack of VW knowledge (and background) but with the help of this forum, I've managed to knock a few faults away!

When I bought her, she looked like this:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fab62%2FJackerz007%2Fnull_zpsc409e4c5.png&hash=d0384c6489150e58ba52c15cf85f038a0761095a)

Straight away, I wanted to get rid of the alloys for some standard monzas (for now..)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fab62%2FJackerz007%2Fnull_zps36c44f73.jpg&hash=5b3c238e0a9711f19c27bb7f748813aa6e309fe9)

As I started to look around the car, I realised I got a bit of a billy bargain with all the parts that have been fitted to the car. The previous owner wasn't a very big car person, as he didn't know what suspension was fitted.. or what exhaust system it has. I knew it had decent parts fitted due to the massive Porsche calipers under the rims but i didn't know how decent everything else was..

Turns out she's got KW Variant 3 Coilovers, and a full milltek turbo-back system too  :jumping:

Also, she's famous on Milltek's site. It's a shame I can't find much information on the car, I'd love to know more of it's history.

Now I want to see what other goodies she may have fitted that he (and myself) didn't know about!

Anyway - A few more shots from a quick wash last week.

You might notice my dads project behind my car in one of the pictures.. A vintage Ford Zephyr, it' only been on my drive for 25years!

Hope you life the (brief) insite into the car

Won't matter it the car been well serviced. The gti engines take a good beating, nice motor what mods you planning?

It's got a Full service history. 5-6 stamps from AmD when they owned it and there's a few more from previous owners.

My plans are to get the faults gone, get my windows working again and a few subtle mods.

I've just purchased some pressed plates from Dubmeister today. They're on my way to work every day, and I got TSR Performance to check to see if my car has a REVO map while i was there.

Unfortunately no REVO map, BUT it is re-mapped. So i'm guessing that AMD used their own mapping software.

Well.. I've found out what my final Engine Managment Fault is. Turns out I need a stage 2 map due to the Sports Cat.

So the next question is.. Do I stick with AMD or do I go to TSR Performance down the road and get a Revo map?

And I just can't help buying more things to improve the golf..

1) Metal Pressed Plates
2) New heater panel with heated seats (need to get a Kufatec loom)
3) Cambelt Kit
4) Spark Plugs
5) A replacement entire mirror as some fool wiped mine clean off!

Now - to fit it all..

they all seem like really nice chaps!

I fear I may spend too much of my moo-lah there though  :jumping:

I did see your car thread, and I fell in love! It's a car of epic proportions.

Sorted out all of the electrical gremlins now.

The previous owner really didn't look after this car, and obviously used it to love house or something as there's some
Big scratches on the glovebox where something's been rubbing hard against it (giggedy)

She needs a real good polish, but I'm so busy at work I've yet to find the hours.

Need to get the arches rolled and the paint on the arches touched up as the tyres rub on
Bumps when cornering due to needing spacers for the wheels to fit over Porsche calipers.

Other than that I got her serviced by TSR Performance in Bridgwater and got cambelt and cam follower changed at the same time for peice of mind.

I also fixed the cruise control issue - numpty previous owner didn't run the connecting wire from the control module to engine bay.

I think that's it for now. Still need to get the heated seats connected, but it's summer now and they're not needed. Haha.

Thanks for the interest :)

Knocked over £1500 of his asking price due to the faults and fixes needed.

Still got some money in the kitty to remove the EML and EPC light due to sports cat. Gonna go Stage 2 to remove them :D

Thought I'd give a bit of an update on this!

MOT is coming up the beginning of next week and I've yet to get rid of the EML and EPC light due to the P0601 Internal Memory Check Sum Error fault code I've been getting since I bought the car.

I need to get this light gone so hopefully getting a remap before the weekend and may also have to get the software update from VW before hand.

Just waiting on the APR specialist to get back to me regarding the fault code and what prep I need to do before hand.

So as of now, the car is a definate MOT failure :(

Any info that may help me. I'll be greatly appreciative!

Jacko

Wow! Where does the time go?

Lets pick up where I left off, the car failed MOT on brakes. That was just a sticky caliper so quickly rectified and it flew through!

I havent done alot else to the car due to being majorly busy at work. I even tested the water selling the car before christmas because I wasn't driving it as I have a mk4 daily derv!

I accidentally stumbled upon a car that caught my eye on an ebay advert, the advert was of a previous edition of VW Performance magazine. Only to realise that it was my car on the front! It's the April 2005 mag and i couldnt believe it at first. So I bought it as quickly as possible!

It's got a decent 3-4 page spread detailing how the car was the first mk5 to be modified as AMD bought it the day it turned up at the showroom. The car was their demo car for many years, as i knew but the amount of input this car had into their remapping of all cars is surreal, they trialled and tested the software hundreds of times until they made sure it was perfect.

Reading the history of the car made me realise I owned something special, a little peice of mk5 history as such.

Hopefully I will keep this thread abit more up to date from now on, as I'm always scouting the forum. I just never comment  :sad1:

Thanks,

Jack

Good stuff Jack - glad to hear you you've found some extra love for the car. Always nice to have something with a bit of history to it!
Hope to hear more on the mk5 soon

Thanks mate, yeah it was an awesome find! The previous owner did mention about it, but I forgot all about it. The best things are found by accident!

Now I need to make some decisions on which mods I want this year
