Title: Heating the car
Post by: Human Joist on December 07, 2013, 12:58:15 pm
What's the best way to warm up the inside of the car the fastest. I know you need the resurc button on but does the air con make it warm up any after or not.

Did expect that to be honest. Seems to take an age to get warm inside as well as temp gauge too. Replacing the two small thermostats this week. Just wondered if air con made it quicker

It's normal for it to take an age to warm up! Haven't found anything which makes it warm up noticeably quicker. Also worth noting that when it's below a certain temp outside the air-con won't work anyway even if it's set to on. It's a self protection thing incase it gets frozen up. Think it's about 4 degrees, but I'm sure someone on here will correct me if I'm wrong!

It depends on your perspective as to what is ages to warm up.

My engine is fully warm at 90c on the gauge within 10 minutes from stone cold in these ambient temps around 3c here.

Warm air out of the vents within 3 or 4 mins of running.

If your car is taking longer than this to warm up then you have thermostat problems.

Yes, the aircon disables at low air temp (can't remember exactly what temp) to prevent icing.

Ahh yes mate. It was your entry that got me on to it to be fair. I get to work 9 miles and it's still only 70 degrees. Once it's to temp it stays there so am thinking same as you two smaller thermostats.

Yep, do it.

I presume you have a 2005 DSG then if you have both?

Mine is the same as this , in fact both my GTIs have been. IIRC the Air Con doesnt function below 5C.
