I have just picked up my sons car from the bodyshop , it had had a nearside damage caused on a roundabout damaged the f/n/s wheel , wing , wing mirror , passenger door , slight rear door and sill . Now i have seen high repair bills before that have amazed me but this bill was for £4600 !
Have the costs gone up that much , man from the Repairer said the paint had gone up dramatically !
If you saw the damage it was not bad , i'll see if my lad has got a photo .

WOW, is it an insurance job? Bodyshop taking the p!ss there me thinks.

Well its a very reputable VW approved Bodyshop and i have only ever heard praise for the place . If they had told me it had been £3000 i would have been shocked but the price they charged seems huge , especially when you see the damage , if my sons got a photo . Yes Insurance and other party at fault , fortunately as his insurance is expensive at 21 .

Ah no surprise then, when body shops take on insurance work they know they can charge an absolute mint and get away with it. Believe you me if it was a walk in private job you'd probably have paid less than half of that amount

Breakdown of the Bill
LABOUR £1400
PARTS £1500 - wheel ,tyre , wing , door panel front , door panel rear and other bits
PAINT AND MATERIALS £500
ADDITIONAL ITEMS £450
VAT £750
When you break it down it doesn't seem so bad , oh and the car he got for the duration of the repair was a 2013 A5 Convertible TDI !
No wonder Insurance is expensive !

Just to set the adaptive cruise up on MKVII - with the front radar bumper is £500.00 for 30 minutes work!
So if they can charge it they will!

Love how mis informed people are when it comes to insurance claims.
All bookshops and insurance firms work off audatex this is a system that sets the prices. No rubbing of hands or bulling up prices.
The prices are set in stone. Labour rates of 28_35 are the norm. Discount of up to 20% added. They won't pay for seat covers. Polishing. Washing or environment protection costs.

How are we misinformed ?
If you had seen the damage you would have said the same as me .
-
People immediately think bookshops stick shed loads on the price. We don't. We actually get paid the correct hours to do thejob .
Ypur cars had the full side done I'd geo as we so can understand the cost. You'll have 500 in a wheel n tyre from vw

Books Shops :signLOL:
I know how they charge - If we had taken it to another similar bodyshop we would have been charged nearly the same
The issue i have is that the cost was very high , we haven't got a photo but if you were the one actually footing the bill you would have been shocked at the cost to repair it. I had a similar incident involving my car when a van reversed out of a parking spot in a car park and damaged my BMW and it hit the same bodywork and wing mirrir as this , it cost £1700 to repair . The only difference being it was a few years ago and no wheel/tyre (£400 in the case of this recent GTI repair)
Anyway they did a fantastic job

Predictive text. Changed it twice lol
Parts prices are going through the roof
We have a brand new ml Merc in wing, bumper and grill come to £1400. It's shocking really.
