Title: EML Light - 57 reg GTI
Post by: RMar on December 09, 2013, 02:55:39 pm
My friend is getting rid of his candy white GTI and I am looking to buy it however he says the EML has been on since he got it 2 years ago. He says the error code is relating to the lamdba sensor but he has replaced it twice and EML still not gone off.

He thinks the car was remapped prior to him buying it but has no proof. Could this be anything to do with it? Or could it be something completely different?

Just would like to know what im in for before I go ahead and buy it off him!

Any help appreciated!

Scan it and verify the code yourself

Get the car scanned to see the stored fault code.
Does the car have a down pipe with sports cat as that combined with a stage 1 map can give that "problem".

Thanks for the replies.

As far as he knows the exhaust is standard?

The fault comes up as 'Bank 1 Sensor 2 Post Cat Oxygen Sensor'

Mass Air Flow Sensors (G70) faulty
Intake Air System faulty/leaking (false Air)
    Fuel Injector(s) faulty
    Insufficient Fuel Delivery
    Exhaust System leaking
    Faulty O2 Sensor(s)

My advice would be get it scanned on VCDS / VAS

He has gotten it scanned and that's the code that's given??

The code indicates a faulty Lambda. The post-cat one is the one that can be mapped out. If the car has a decat pipe then that would indicate the problem. You can check if it's got a de-cat easily by jacking up the car and looking

Ah, didn't look like a RossTech code.. closest it came up with was listed above... pretty easy fix then, just get it coded out, or grab a Stage 2 map, assuming it has an aftermarket DP of course and not a faulty sensor...

Who has a warning light on for two years and not know what it's for!?!

what a strange friend you have.

2 years with the light on and 2 lambda sensors later he is selling a car with the same issues he bought it with.

FFS

hahahahahaha
