Hi Guys,
Just bought a Mk5 Jetta, 2008 Plate, 140 TDi
Thinking of getting it mapped by the same place that Mapped my Corrado, local place to me!
A few people of mentioned that they had heard horror stories of mapped 140 engines eating turbo's anf generally sh*tting them selves :(
Any truth in that? I know there will be increased risk but surely it cant be a huge issue!
Any advice welcome
Cheers
Steve

A bad map will damage the turbo, however loads of stock PD140's have wooing turbo's.
Regular good quality oil changes, letting the turbo wind down before turning off the engine and warming it up before gunning it all helps.
It will also reduce the life of your clutch/DMF - but all of these are wear items anyway.

The newer models are a lot better now-Are you getting John to do it

John's doing my CR140 soon as well
-
My 140 is mapped, have no problems at all, Bearing in mind I change the oil and filter every 6 months (6000miles)
Cheers Dan

All depends on the map and how well you maintain your Golf.

John does mine and its a excellent map

The main problems are the turbos
The BKD lumps come with really quite weak turbos.
You're best off taking the TIP off and testing the bearings by trying to move it to see what sort of movement you have - it should be NONE in and out and very small radial movement, a couple of mm tops. If it's lose/wobbly then replace the turbo before it blows up and takes your engine with it.. happened to some guy on uk-mkivs.net.
Decent mappers only increase the boost by 100-200mb and increase the fuelling - Similar to the PD150 mapping process.

My Uncle's 2.0 TDI PD 140 was Revo mapped and had no mechanical issues as yet, while the turbo is whiny it always has been like that from the start. Our garage checked it over and confirmed its nothing to be concerned about. The only problem we find after the map is that its torque delivery to be quite savage!
:driver:

Heavy torque delivery usually indicates big turbo spike.
Typical with Revo to be honest!
They can be noisy turbos which is natural most of them whine a bit! It's the weeeeeewoooooooweeeeewooooo you need to be careful of.

Cheers for that,
Is the TIP easy to get to/take off on these??

Follow air intake path you should be albe to reach down.
Or you can take the boost pipe off the back end of the turbo and get in that way.
