Now my ed 30 is out of warranty and I have no faith in garages I'm planning on doing my own services, That way I know good oil ect is getting used and so on do many of you do the same??.

I do my own, but depending where you live there are plenty of decent indys around... quite a few on here too. :happy2:

Yep, change my oil every 3-5k just to keep it fresh, use Millers Nano Drive.

Last time I dropped the oil I had the sump off and replaced the pick up pipe, these are known for blocking up if crap oil has been used etc, it was mint but was more for peace of mind.

That's great, but expensive and dare I say it unnecessary, unless you're highly upgraded power wise.

Not really, I only do about 5k a year so more of a yearly thing.

Aim for 10,000 or 12 months whichever is sooner. Change the oil and filter and the pollen and air filters too at the same time. Aim for the spark plugs every 2-3 years or so and your good. Maybe change the fuel filter after 80k and the cam follower too. People will say to change the last two more often. However VW list the fuel filter as a non service part and will never do it. And as far as the cam follower, I changed my original one last week at 88k and it was fine. The only other thing to do is maybe check the DV every now and then

All car service intervals now are too long thats why you here of modern engines failing , at least o do mine between vw services or more normally when the oil is on offer at opie !!

Good replys I intend to keep my ed30 till the death otherwise I'd be tempted to keep up a history tbh.

A service stamp is one thing but I used to own an Audi s3 with full Audi stamps on 90k. The haldex had never been changed as the original ones were metal and all replacement a plastic. I discovered this when I changed it myself. The stamp does not mean everything. On the other side I service all my cars myself from newish to old classic cars and when you sell them privately the seller gets a huge folder of receipts for parts and it's far more to actually go on. I date all the receipts for the change of parts and service and have never had a problem

I service my car myself more for the peace of mind that the right oil is being used and that everything is actually getting replaced.

I do the cam follower every 10k spark plugs & fuel filter every 20k, I also buy a new sump plug and washer every time.

I also check everything every week and try to get the car on a ramp every month for better checks

The only thing I don't do is the timing belt but I got a garage that I trust to do that for me.

I'd feel the same if I was using a main dealer. Using the garage i do, the mechanic and owner clearly would never mislead. They publish the oil they use and welcome anything extra or different you need doing.

Plus oil changes and stuff is far too much effort on my drive  :signLOL:
