Title: Air bag fault
Post by: jakex181 on December 22, 2013, 03:56:04 pm
Just installed a sub and stupidly tested the stereo with the dash apart and airbag off light unplugged, now it's making a ping when I start my car and saying there is a fault, is there a way to reset this or do I need to get someone to do it?

Going to be honest, its not worth buying a cheap copy off ebay, get a genuine version - just saying  Smiley

Where to get VCDS from;
http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_VCHU.html (http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_VCHU.html)
Micro-Can = £208.64
Hex-USB+Can =£263. (Get this version if you can stretch the budget)

Every now and again they do pop up on the classifieds but as VCDS holds its value the savings tend to be minor.

If buying from ebay or classifieds make sure its genuine!!

The dodgy copies dont really work properly. May work one minute and not the next. I would find some one local and ask them to sort you out, takes 5mins!

"cheap copies"  This is actually the whole problem
Ross tech are responsible for an awful lot of software development and provide an amazing helpline
 £260 is not expensive
VW charge £85 for a scan and you may get lots of beer tokens from scanning mates cars vw audi seat skoda
(oh sh*t that sounds like a sermon)

Don't you just need a VAG fault code reader from amazon, less than a tenner, most of these clear codes. I used one  before I had a VCDS cable to clear virtually the same problem.

Yes for clearing of basic codes these will work fine.

All im interested in doing is clearing the codes, if I can get one from Amazon for 10 pounds that sounds perfect,  could you send me a link to one on there or tell me what I need. Cheers

No-one was talking about copies. People were talking about the generic code readers which, if they can interface with the car will clear codes.  :happy2:

It was something like this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Diagnostic-Scanner-CAN-Bus-Trouble-Diagnose/dp/B005FOIC3I/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1387813039&sr=8-6&keywords=vag+OBD2

There are other models from other manufacturers and suppliers. You can get bluetooth jobbies which when paired to a smartphone with software like TORQUE can do the same thing, I keep one in a cubbyhole just in case.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bluetooth-Diagnostic-Scanner-Engine-READER/dp/B004KL0I9I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1387813343&sr=8-1&keywords=vag+OBD2+bluetooth

Either way many dislike them but they have worked for me.

Not trying to influence you but buying a genuine copy will give you the flexibility to diagnose your and others cars should other faults arise in the future and will always be updated for the vag group of cars as I see it to me it is more of an investment which in theory will last a lifetime. Had mine 6 months and diagnosis on my car alone it paid for itself ,like I said not trying to influence you  :P
