What are the advantages of mapping a diesel ( gt tdi 140 ) for example . I don't drive fast and wonder why you would map a diesel ? I don't do many miles either . Just wondering really . Would it not make fuel consumption worse ? Would it not make more sense to by a petrol Gti ? Thanks :confused: Is there a Map that would suit my driving without putting extra wear n tear o the car ?

Mapping a diesel makes the car drive better and gets rid of that terrible flat spot they have..A good tuner will be able to make a map for your car to suit you..If your not doing a lot of miles ignore all that and get a Gti

Driving a standard diesel to a mapped one is a huge difference.
As standard TDIs have a very flat delivery, they peak and then sort of fade away very quickly. With a remap you will double your powerband width, from around 1800-2800 in a normal car to about 2000-4200 in a mapped one.
You also gain fuel economy because of the way the boost and fuelling is done, making it more efficient at part throttle openings, meaning you can expect around 6-8mpg increase on a steady cruise.
If you don't drive many miles you should not have really bought a diesel to be honest! That being said driving a GTI even around town the difference is huge, the worst I got from my 1.9 TDI was 450 a tank, the worst I've had from my GTI is 260 (so far...) so really the TDI is more economical.

Because often diesels gain even more bhp and torque than petrols quite often while adding even better mpg when driving normally.

I gained better economy by about 5mpg for certain, i never got 60mpg ever and its a lot smoother

I've had both remapped diesel and petrol car.... Never had increase MPG with either of them. Could be down to lead foot disease.

Definitely, if I put my foot down I average 40mpg which is still good tbh. To get really good mpg I have to drive like a nun

If you drive quicker then completely agree it's worse than before but on cruise control on motorway...? Better :)

I haven't mapped my CR 170 TDI (yet :evilgrin:)
But have lots of mates with mapped diesels. Think Jay has the reasons pretty much wrapped up further up in the thread, if you want a bit more poke and a more flexible engine then a remap is for you.
Some people also have remap to support other modifications like DPF removal or EGR removal.

i have had many petrol cars and a couple of diesels , nothing better than mapping a good petrol turbo but my god the torque from a diesel is fantastic , got my gt sport 170 done and its amazing , 208bhp and 338 ft lb torque

I am certain my 2.0tdi 140 is mapped, purchased it like it and it pulls like a bloody train and the economy is good. I just wish I knew who it was mapped by (if at all) and what power it is putting out. It's definitely fun to drive!! :innocent:

If you don't drive fast or feel like you need more power a economy map might be worth while for you? should see decent gains on your MPG and will also smooth out any flat spots
