I know this subject has been done quite a bit and got a bit heated at times over exhausts but which do people think is going to be louder for day to day use ....
APR RSC TBE or Milltek Resonated TBE on a remapped Edition 30 DSG ?
Not interested in discussing build or cost .... just the sound side of things that interests me.
I know ultimately listening is the answer ..... and am going to listen to an APR exhaust at Tuningwerkes in Croydon when I can hopefully soon... and have been out in a resonated Milltek equipped Ed30 about a year ago.
As I favour little change from standard - which I know is kind of Milltek resonated territory - am i wasting time listening to the APR as it will be too loud and more like a non res Milltek ..... or is it worth a go
-
Where are you located? You can come out in mine if you want?
The Milltek sounds a lot more OEM, the APR is very quiet inside the car, but it is much louder from the outside of the car! On idle and at a 70mph cruise the APR is quieter than stock.
To be honest, the APR is quite 'distinctive', whereas the Milltek is more 'subtle' sounding - if that makes sense.
-
I was wondering the same until i went out with chis ^^^ my mind was made up there and then.
Like you said best to hear both before you invest but for me the rasp of the APR was just awesome
APR - FTW
Robin is a good guy to talk about millys :happy2:

Thanks for the offer .... I'm in SW London / Surrey so Tuningwerkes is very, very close ..... unless you are in this area too

I'm in Ascot, although I'm more than happy to meet you somewhere in the middle of us/nearer to you if you want. Reuben at TW is an excellent guy

Definitely agree with Chris on this one, and all those at the Superchips RR day back in June will probably agree with what Chris has just said. For me, had I heard WhiteGTI's RSC prior to getting my Milltek I may well have gone for the APR RSC.

Me too i love the sound of his Zorst
Though he did more research than time spent studying for exams. :signLOL:

Its swings and roundabouts really. Both will have similar performance gains, the choice of exhaust comes down to two things really:
1. Sound characteristics
2. Tailpipe design (albeit less important than sound)
Also bear in mind that the APR has a large backbox that you can actually see hanging down slightly when looking at the rear of the car, whereas the Milltek is more hidden.

Ah, didn't know about the rear box .....
Ascot's not exactly far at all but Croydon is alot closer  I will get over to see Reuben but failing that may PM you.
.... and to the others - thanks for the replies :happy2:

Another brand to consider also is Eurojet.
-
As above, the Milltek is very o.e sounding.I have the Milltek cat back non res & glad i didn't get the resonated i think it would be too quiet.

Yes, they are, I know Joel at Eurojet - they make an awesome manifold too! :happy2:
-
I have the Eurojet on my cupra... build quality makes the milly look like it was put together by the blind and the noice is unreal!!
Joel is a ver nice guy and very very helpful! :happy2:

Okidoki! Let us know what you think of it!

just finished putting on my milltek, cat back non resonated exhaust, about half hour ago got to say very well made piece of kit sounds standard when idling which is nice but go above 2500 300rpm and what a beautifull sound comes into its own would highly recomend it not chavvy sounding at all just pure grunt love it!!!!!

Sound is very, very subjective and we each hear slightly differing ranges of sound anyway - My hearing might be better on bass than yours and yours might be better for treble etc etc.
Of the main performance exhausts: Milltek, APR, Blueflame - They all deliver similar performance AFAIK but they each have slightly different sound characters.
Today we swopped to a smaller 'Resonator' section on my Milltek - There is hardly anything in my shallow backbox and so a resonator is needed to stay legal. It's now much more 'burbly' and pops more on shifts as well as sounding stronger. It hasn't killed the Grrrrrrrrrrrr!! from my engine mounts I'm glad to say.
I can't praise my black satin ceramic tips enough - So eeeeeasy to keep clean and never hot to touch.
I don't know yet what Milltek will decide - My system is somewhat custom but could be offered to others - It's up to them.
-
can milly make a twin pipe center exhaust for the cupra k1 instead of just offering a oval?
-
And can they also make custom tailpipe designs?
-
wouldnt the gti R32 style one fit poverty? :chicken:
-
The K1 cutout isn't big enough to take the twin r32 design as they sit a reasonable distance apart.
-
arrh right youd need a smaller box i just thought underneath was the same as the GTi :ashamed:

You're right there, it is the same as the gti. But the exit aperture on the K1 is designed for an oval tail pipe so is only small really.

Here's a couple of shots of the APR RSC 3" on a ED 30.

And i have heard the Milltek on a friends car, more neutral sounding in general and more noisy inside the car than the APR RSC

^^^^^^^^ That is a very useful post!!! :happy2: :happy2:

And i have heard the Milltek on a friends car, more neutral sounding in general and more noisy inside the car than the APR RSC
....I would describe the Milltek as more 'sophisticated' sounding or more 'amplified oem' and less harsh except screams at 5,000 plus. Personally I want to hear my exhaust inside the car and don't care so much about what it sounds like from outside.
Sound is such a subjective thing, like colour, and I'm not going to claim which is the better exhaust.
