Post by: vag12 on January 01, 2014, 08:43:57 pm
As above my friends gti has been taken to the garage who have said the chain in the engine has snapped so needs a new engine? What is this linked to and what would be the cause? Anything to do with timing belt?

Dont think the tfsi has a chain , must be timing belt snapped
Tsi engine has had problems with the chain tensioner letting the chain slip on start up = new engine !!

The belt runs the exhaust cam, then there is a chain from the exhaust cam that runs the inlet cam.

This document is valid for 2.0 TFSI's, as the engines are all fundamentally the same. Although the K04 engines have a bit more pipework.
