Just installed a new 7n0 gateway to support my new RNS but I haven't been able to code it properly. I've ticked all the relevant boxes in the installation list but there's an error along the lines of 'this Ecu is not supported yet' when I try to do long coding - the car thinks it's LHD as getting fog light/reverse light errors.
Could the gateway be too 'new' to be recognised? The manufacturing date is 8/13? If that's the case, if I find someone with up to date vcds will it solve the problem?
Cheers

Its not a case of being too new anyway..
Try adding in each module into the can seperately..can just takea bit of playing around

I had the same issue when fitting a new gateway and ended up just ticking the relevant boxes in the installation list. The problem is with the length of the coding. If i remember correctly you just change the last digit in the code from a 0 to a 1 and it knows its rhd then. Hope this helps :happy2:

Yeh cheers mate, I tried something similar with the adding 1, didn't seem to work but I'll keep playing with it!

You need to enter a workshop code instead of using the default 00000 to code the gateway.
-
I tried the workshop code thing but that didnt work either. I had the gateway off eddie and he told me they cant be coded.

Made no difference for me either. Haven't had a chance to try today, hopefully will have it sorted by the weekend.

The gateway should be recognized by the ECU. The only reports I know about concern the VCDS version that's been used. I think you should have the latest version if you're using a newly manufactured gateway.
-
Ah ok cheers. The coding on my original gateway was about 14 characters long and only 6 or 7 on the new one. I can change the last digit to swap between lhd or rhd but not alter the long coding. Error 22 is what i get.

coding is very simple
OLD Gateways
Uses long coding and Installation list
You can use both
Last gateway to use Long coding for modules fitted was a 7N0 907 530
New Gateways
Only use Long coding for Vehicle Platform, Vehicle make and type, number of doors and if the vehicle is LHD or RHD.....Nothing Else
All other coding is done by installation list
The reason for changing was down to so many options being available on so many vehicle types.
Long coding would have got longer and longer
also why have two ways to code a module when one way is easier

Thanks for clearing that up for everyone eddie.
What would the long code be for a 2005 3 door right hand drive dsg be then?
-
Well as I posted
vehicle platform = Golf mk5 PQ35: 35
vehicle type is a VW and a hatchback and the default for that is: 00
a 3 door = 01
so the coding is: 350001
DSG is coded in the long coding

This is what I thought, but it didn't seem to work when I tried it. Does the ignition need to be cycled after inputting the coding? Have access to vcds 12.12.0 tonight so I'll try this again
Cheers

Just in case anyone needs this solving - once updated to 12.12.0 VCDS recognised the gateway no problem and gave full access to the long coding. Had to rescan and re-clear the fault codes before everything was sorted, but at least it's done now :happy2:
