Title: Car alarm
Post by: Chris92 on January 07, 2014, 07:25:59 pm
Hi

I've had my mk5 gti for around 6 month now and I've never heard the car alarm once so yesterday I locked it and tried to set it off by rocking it but that never worked so then I sat inside and locked it again and tried to set the alarm off again but it never went off. Are these car just stubborn to set the alarm ringing or do I have a problem? The red light flashes on the driver door when you lock it from the key fob. Any ideas?

Scan the car maybe there is a fault with the alarm system.
Presume it has one fitted..

I think I read that some of the imports didn't have alarms or something but surely it does or why have that red flashing light as I always throught they were to do with the alarms, but yes I think il get it scanned

If just your indicators flash then most likely the battery in the siren has died/burst.

But could be loads of things...deactivated, faulty sensors or worse, it is an import

Take your OSF arch liner off and look for an aluminium box, if you can't scan it

Had a similar thing when I got my car... it turned out the Alarm Siren was dead, but better than that, it had been switched OFF in VCDS

The Siren is riveted on and can be got at through the offside wheel arch, I didn't bother having a go at it, as I thought it'd been through enough, lol, but it's an easy enough job once you've drilled it out, can grab them on eBay for ~£30. :happy2:

Thanks for the help, so if it is the siren box will that show up when I scan it? As long as it's not an import and it can be fixed I don't mind. Even if the siren was dead wouldn't the lights still flash if the alarm was/should be going off?

Nothing wrong with Imports.... !!!!

The red light will flash anyway on the door
You can verify you have an alarm by checking on the drivers side door pillar on the inside there will be 2 buttons for the alarm controls and on the passenger side between the front and rear doors on the roof there will be a sensor unit.

^^If that was in reference to me, I was making no judgement of imports other than they do not come with an alarm so it is a big job to fit an OEM one

Mine went off last night at about 2.30am i presume it was the very blustery wind and hailstones / sleet that must of rocked it and set it off.

I did check and no one was about and my security lights were all off.

Anybody had the same issue with strong winds ? or is it just a 1 off ?

Some must be different, presume around 07 when they changed supplier etc.

For reference the 2nd picture is your interior monitoring sensors so you do have an alarm I would scan the car with VCDS you'll probably find a fault.

My car is a 07. How come my pic of the one on the roof looks different to yours? It has no buttons or nothing on it. Il scan it tomorrow but don't have access to vag com but il see if it'll pick the fault up if there is one there.
