Bought a spare dash to have painted but.......
How on earth do these 2 bits come apart?? The back clips are lose but the front part I'm just bending and am getting nowhere. It's going in the bin soon!

Really REALLY starting to p*ss me off now. I need to take it apart to send to the paintshop, can I do it, can I Bollox!! Arggggghh

If you buy a replacement from VW it comes all as one part as you've posted.
-
ITS definetly 2 distinct and different pieces of plastic, it's lose all the way around the sides BUT not the bottom. This one is from an Eddy that's been broken up, same as my dash. I'm not taking that one out to FUBAR it so this ones coming apart or else.
It might be worth smashing it to relieve the stress!!

They do a painted (silver) 1K0 819 728 J V80 - £60.77 from the factory
I'm sure brookesb32 has stripped one ask him.
-
^^^^ Thanks for that, I'll PM Simon (Brookes32) and ask him to point me in the right direction.
I've seen the silver ones, like them! I'm having the interior bits done in Gloss Black to match the accent pieces of the climate control unit and the Headunit. Might look sh*t but he who dares and all that.
:happy2:

That's the problem with plastic it either breaks or shows the white stress marks!
Looking forward to seeing the painted up version.

Nicely done Martin :jumpmove:
I would have said take your time and lift up the clips gently and watch out for the slats as they like to fall out and come apart :signLOL:
Bought the same this evening to have a bit of a play with, vinyl wrap style, so we can compare after  once it arrives that is

What was the trick to safely dismantling it?
Seen the vents on there own for sale - common for the silver part to break off!
-
Thanks Simon, I was just about to contact you when it came apart. The vents did indeed fall out but luckily enough they're in one piece so that good.
I vinyl wrapped one a few years back, looked ok but you just can't get into all those little corners properly, hope you have better luck than me.
I've an old one that I painted to put on the car but never got round to it and now I have a Mk6 climate control I never will. Oh and my "attempt" at painting was shockingly bad (and the reason why the next ones going to a professional) so I'll bin that one (below) or keep it to experiment on. Looks ok in the pic but that's because its out of focus!

^^^^^^
That does look nice Martin - the bonus of low light it seems
I have a vinyl squeegee which helps with edges so shall see how that works - I just need to think what vinyl people would like as I don't have the mk5 anymore
Oh and don't bin it, experiment or sell it to me to experiment on
I recon yours will look nice gloss once the paint shop has done the job :drinking:

They aren't too bad, had probably 5 apart over the last couple of years, just wiggly and lift clips. Common for the vents to break or like you say for the silver bit to be missing -
