Post by: candy turbo on September 23, 2009, 08:31:42 pm
my ford mate gave me the keys to his RS focus earlier today and said have a good look !!!  because as you know i ve been thinking of getting one , drive wise and power i would say its level with my ed 30 , but on closer inspection the finish and fit is poor compared to vw , the RS ive been looking at will cost me £8k and my golf !!SO the ed 30 is staying until i see the scirocco  and golf R in the flesh any way ,   sorry guys should have listened to you lot  :happy2:

Sorry, but ultimately the RS is still the better drivers car than any k04 vag will be past or present.

However the k04 VAG's are the better overall cars.

However the k04 VAG's are the better overall cars.

As standard maybe, and only if you aren't too concerned about interior quality and feel.

Most of the Stock RS's are touching £27-£28k and for that you can buy a nearly new ED30/Pirelli and give it £8k of mods.

Yes, I know you can modify the RS too, but you'll still be limited by the cylinder liners that limit the power, plus you are adding onto the initial outlay too.

£8k of mods will give you:-

Fully adjustable suspension - £1650
Arb's                                     -£400
Remap                                  - £600
Turbo-back exhaust              - £1100
FMIC                                     - £700
Intake                                   - £400
HPFP                                     - £400
Uprated DV                           - £150
Quaife                                   - £1500
Brake upgrade                      - £600
WALK                                    - £200
Dogbone insert                     - £40

.....

I parked next to one recently and took some pics. I was surprised at the poor quality of details - Very plasticky but cheap looking plastics. I was also surprised by how big a car the RS is.

It's also 100kg heavier!

RS = 300bhp and 1467kg = 204.5bhp/tonne

Modded GTI = 250bhp and 1350kg = 185bhp/tonne

Phil Mc (Steve's) stage 1 ED30 = 278bhp - 1380kg = 201.5bhp/tonne

Cant agree more, it does look aggressive but it's just far too chavvy for my liking. Also come to my senses and selling the Vauxhall I bought last week  :ashamed:

Just need the damn V5 to land on the door mat and it can go

heard its an awesome car to drive in a mad scary way,my mate just went for the top end scooby after test driving both extensively but its just too lairy and boy racer looking for me.
and when put next to RR's it looks very cheap and "put together"
i wouldnt say no if it were given to me but i,ll stick to what we got!

and RR....... do love that car of urs!!

Waste of money mate and as said a Ford will NEVER be as good a build as a VW or any other VAG car FORD = Found On Roadside Dead.

I have owned two fords in the past and although they were good cars and had no problems with them, the quality and longevity is questionable.

My Stage 1 Mk2 Leon Cupra has already left 2 RS Foci for dead. They are too damn heavy lol.

You have definately made the right choice. The Ford might be a very satisfying car to drive but it just looks way to chavvy for me, put it this way, your picking a lady up on the first date, what would you rather be in? A chavvy RS or an understated GTI? I know what my decision would be! Plus they aint that quick anyway, I left one for dead from the lights the other day, 4WD + S-Tronic = WIN!

ASBO car  :congrats:

I remember racing a few months back on stage one at about 310 bhp and i made him look like he was going backwards...

he wasnt best pleased.

They look nice and drive nice but just too expensive for what it is

You finally joined up. Heard a rumour concerning our DP's lately, not sure if its true will talk about it in private.

The thing is though, you can mod the chassis of our golfs as much as we want, but the RS will still be superior, it has a wider track for a start and a more informative steering wheel.

They kick out about 375hp on the std turbo and 80lbft more of torque.

Even though mine pisses all over a std RS i still know which car I would rather take round a track.

i care not about what anyone says, i think its a beautiful car!

rewind yourself back a handful years ago and we were all winging that the hot hatch was dead and nothing out their was fun anymore

ford listened to the modders and created the RS, credit where credit's due  :congrats:

I agree....credit must also be handed to VW for making the ED30 soooooo tuneable too. I'd rather have a decent starting point than something which is Ford's take on a finished article - even if it is a creditable car

One went past me in blue last week and I thought it looked horrible .... the driver looked 'predictable' too ....  yet I saw a white one at the weekend and thought it was great - striking as opposed to 'too much'

.... I then saw that even secondhand at the moment they are going for £29 'ish - for a Ford .... err, don't think so !!
