bit of an odd one but on my 08 plate GTI when i turn the sidelights on only the right side rear number plate light comes on but when i turn the main headlights on the left and right plate lights work.
anyone know whats likely to be causing this? will vcds tell me if theres a prob?
Wondering is simply replacing the light unit itself might resolve it.
cheers
Tony

That type of fault tends to be the type were corrosion is the issue - causing poor connection typically earth issue.
Removal of the lamp will most likely show the offending item!

Are the rear lights fed on different circuits with the 2 manual positions of the switch?
-
Not sure tbh, I will take the unit out and have a look

No,not according to drawing No 142/13
Both lights feed from J519 connection C8 were they split at T2aj/1 for none parking aid models.

So in theory that scenario is impossible?
Haha

thanks for any attempts at helping out here guys - i am going to just replace the whole unit and see what that does - what i dont get is that if it was corrusion then it wouldnt work at all - but it does when the headlights are on just not when the sidelights are activated.
