I have a 55 plate mk5 gti dsg.
When i start the car there is a squeal/rattle for a split second while the engine is turning over and when it fires up its gone, you cant hear anything while its idling. When i go to set off or when the engine is labouring in 2nd gear it also does it then. I was thinking tensioner but im not sure, any ideas? im gonna go pull the coils and get someone to turn it over while i try and pinpoint but i couldnt hear where it was coming from before
-
its coming from around the gearbox side and not the belt side
-
Heres a video i just took, you cant hear it much. Ive been doing some reading and i hope its not the dmf.
-
It wont be DMF unless under load..probably chain tensioner

I will try and get a better video tomorrow, it does it when i start up. and sometimes the gearbox stays in 2nd when it feels like it should go in first it also does it then with a rattle. When im at full throttle and the engine is under full boost at about 4k and i change into 3rd the squeak can faintly be heard then too. Also when full throttle going from 3rd to 4th gear the clutch slips sometimes.

Ok manual. Put it into 4th gear and gently putting the engine under load..if it vibrates it will be your flywheel..
If your clutch is slipping its time to get upgrade as it will damage the DMF flywheel as it overheats when it slips..

doesnt vibrate in 4th under load, and seems to idle fine too, i just get it on startup and when labouring the engine at very low revs in 2nd. Its dsg by the way. thanks. Im just expecting the worst.

Was the dsg serviced as there is an procedure to align the clutches..
-
Ahh..sorry just remembered.. Starter motor bearings..get it off and lube it the noise goes away..

I serviced the dsg about 4 months ago, and ive reset the gearbox a couple of times using vcds and it hasn't changed it. I will try that with the starter on monday but i dont think it would have any effect to it while the engine is at low rpm in 2nd gear
