Title: Any bad back sufferers?
Post by: Phillyf21 on January 14, 2014, 11:27:32 am
I ask as I’m in the market for a mk5 (winter pack) and was wondering how the seats fair up with bad back sufferers?

I’m currently recovering from 3 slipped discs and wouldn’t want to make it worse in buying a car with really uncomfortable seats. I can deal with the stiffer ride it’s the seat comfort and position that matters.

Currently drive a s60 d5 which have lazy boys for seats.

Pretty good... I slipped a disc 2 years ago in april, and being in the car for extended periods is fine!  :happy2: (every person is different though)

I suffer with disc problems too and relish the opportunity to spend time in the golf as the seats are fantastic for any length of time, whereas the plank seats in my Kangoo van are like an instrument of torture, but as Rich says each persons back is different but I've had 3 mk5/6 gti's and had no problems  :happy2:

I suffer from psoriatic arthritis which affects my joints and back. I found that although the heating was welcome the seats (standard leather) were not firm enough which caused back ache over longer trips. I ended up swapping the seats for the R32 Recaro buckets which are firmer and far more comfortable for myself to use.

The lumbar support helps as well

I found the opposite,I thought I had made a mistake buying the Golf as my back was in bits (back surgery in 02) then I realised the lumbar support was on,switched it off and all is good now.

I also use no lumber support and find that best suits me but as mentioned everyone's back complaints are different.

I've had a trapped nerve in my lower back for a few years after a fall and after ages of fiddling I've found the seat in my car is a nice place to be, it's getting out after a long journey that hurts like hell.  :sad1:

Slipped disc in March 13' had 6 months off pain  :sad1:

After a few adjustments i was fine, even managed the 160 mile down to Inters.

Heated seats were a great help. I spend 90 mins each morning evening on route to work, been fine over last few months.

Slipped disc in 09. Since then I've had a slammed polo which was really harsh and now on a gti it's really comfy. No back issues :)

I find the GTI seats really good for my bad back.  The lumbar support is great.  Probably some of the comfiest seats I've sat in in a car :happy2:

On the side of your seat at the bottom there's a round button with 4 indentations.  Press the indentations depending on where you need the support.

Ah cheers, didn't realise it had that :) I find the seat comfortable enough as is so far.
