And charge me for a new one... Has anyone heard of this happening? They have said the mechanic was using a crowbar to loosen it but couldn't. I have told them to leave it until I have a think about it. What's your thoughts? BS or what?

Tap it very lightly with a hammer anti clockwise see if it moves, if not and it brakes you can buy new ones from TPS cheap enough.

Mine originally broke with the handle at the top failing off, so in the end just used a pair of players to turn it, I'm guessing it isn't as simple as that?
-
My dealer broke mine taking it off and replaced it FOC, Even lent me a courtesy car overnight whilst they sorted it.
