Another K1 - looking good too. :happy2:
You do realise that this forum will leave you both with superbly modded motors and no money
-
wow :happy2: i really do love those cupra's. Especially in white
New tyres at 4K? you've been givin the car a right proper run-in
-
lovin the K1's, every time I'm at Seat with the other halfs Leon I'm all over the K1's, it would have to be white or black :happy2:
-
I must admit after seeing one in the flesh on Saturday I was quite impressed. :happy2:
Oh, you ED30 boys jealous of the big brakes? :P
Nope already got a set. :P

Yeah man been wanting to get a exhaust mod done for ages now, I hope our custom hybrid will feature a bit of popping and banging when we give it some down the strip!
Another K1 - looking good too. :happy2:

Tell me about it, a good chunk of my wage goes on the car every month, paying for it, fuel and mods, and really there are more sensible things to spend my money on but I just cant help it. The way I see it is like this, the sooner the car is complete, the sooner I can start thinking straight again! :signLOL:
Winter is coming though so im hoping to get in plenty of overtime as peoples boilers pack up to pay for mods

Yea wanted to get shot of the oem bridgestone tires asap and get some better rubber on. Im due some new brakes and another set of tires soon though. Currently the mileage is sat at 8100 miles lol.

Whites the new black
Looked at black k1's but whilst it does look like a stealth bomber in black, it hides some of the features which would be better for someone wanting a slightly more discreet K1 that still looks mean.
-
New brakes? Yikes
-
U are going to love the blueflame  so glad I had them make these for the k04 cars
-
Nice one Poverty can't wait to hear your new tbe :congrats:

great minds think alike. :drinking:
Going by that pic im thinking that darker rear lights is the way forward. Undecided about the real lower valance though.

ahhh good, because im the opposite! keeping red lights but doing my valance black along with roof and spoiler ( i said it first lol )
-
Got quoted £100 to do the rear lower valance so i'll leave it for now till i find something/somewhere cheaper.

rubbish! im doing mine myself for under £20, plasti-dip! its some rubber spray stuff americans use... just mask up and spray on, job done
what about doing the whole center bit?

We really do have all the same ideas! I thought the rear of the k1 is too white and I always thought the whole back in black would look great which it does. A danish guy has done it already also!

Vinyl it dude!

Thanks, once the DP is fitted I think I will get some new rubber and brake pads, then hopefully by then the ITG intake is available.
Trying to source some ferodo ds2500 pads for it, as they are meant to be the danglies!
-
That was was Vinyl! Think i'll DIY.
-
That was was Vinyl! Think i'll DIY.
Your vinyl guy is taking the piss. My local bodyshop who do kit cars and insurance work would spray my rear valance for 100. For vinyl it should be about 40-50 squid. My mate got his whole roof and bonnet vinyled for 120. Try somewhere else dude. :happy2:
-
Im defo feelin viny, cheap, easy and can come off if you need.. if you spray something thats it!
however the plastidip stuff is just like rubber and will peel off like vinyl once sprayed its amazin stuff
-
I think I want to vinyl up my alloys like you now :ashamed:

Hmm jason... make me an offer lol ;)

Cars still at he bodyshop.
Said they had to break the offside steering knuckle to do a geometry check as the camber was out?, so now waiting for a new one to arrive. Really getting bored of the courtesy car now. The novelty of it being a drop top as long worn off :sad1:

unless it was bent maybe and thats what they meant. I dont question these guys too much, as long as they get it fixed and do a good job im happy.
I think alot of indies do a much better job than VAG groups own garages tbh.

Update
Engine cover worked its way loose and I have got a partially broken fuel pump. The sensor is nearly snapped in half but the wires are still connected.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fvv43%2Fpoverty_k1%2F04102009283.jpg&hash=c4069f367f4c7bec4d5062a277c152bc8ab64866)

Still waiting on the DP, blueflame say it should be done on the 15th. Also want a ITG intake asap as the engine cover is such a flawed design. And thats about it, car is in the bodyshop, front bumper getting full respray amongst some other less interesting things
-

I got them from the states indeed, PM me for more info mate
Blade the white looks good! i toyed with the idea but settled for red
-
mine did this at the beginning of the year, and went into limp mode. they ended up replacing the whole fuel pump and high pressure fuel sender under warrantee, it was my engine cover not being on correctly that caused it, must have been bouncing up and down onto of it etc

thats right :( happened to me 3 or 4 times now on both cupras i had, not good ! design issue plus bad FWD wheel hop causing the whole thing to vibrate and crack it off.

The pump is now instock. And the lady on the phone wont give me the pump to fit myself. Gonna go down there and have a quick chat with the mechanic me thinks. Only need the bloody head!

Cant say I noticed any change in exhaust or intake noise on the GTI / ED30 or the S3 when they were mapped with standard hardware but maybes the K1 is a different story..

k1 is silent without a map at WOT from inside the car. Once mapped its a completely different story. Hated how mine was so quite when it was standard, but like it how its mapped. Wonder how the BF system will change the sound.
ITG Pics and outside vids to come as soon as im back from the gym :happy2:
-
ok heres a update.
Yesterday got the car back from the bodyshop with a freshly painted front bumper. The old one was stone chipped pretty badly. Had to get the bodyshop to do it twice though as the first effort was terrible. Now its good as new. :happy2:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fvv43%2Fpoverty_k1%2F14102009291.jpg&hash=6d97245d0afa764a12413e86aa87fdff64cd65e2)

Anyway went about fitting it in the dark, ended up snapping a jubilee clip so had to quickly run to b n q to get a new one.
Here it is all fitted.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fvv43%2Fpoverty_k1%2F14102009293.jpg&hash=7394b526e5e1232efe9773a02b925037faf7fe0f)
And one in the day light
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fvv43%2Fpoverty_k1%2F15102009295.jpg&hash=28218f0ac4426c441d520e09c3260996cc36d97d)
The quality of the kit is amazing.
Anyway onto the important bit! How it sounds!
It really is rather noisy, turns heads and all that, but people seem to like it. Had a man asking me about the car as he was curious as it sounded like a "beast".
Car is alot more responsive and holds the power further up the revs now. However I think my standard DV needs replacing now as it seems to be struggling to keep up. Also seem to have a slight slat spot at about 5.2k revs but the ecu still needs to adapt so hopefully that will go away.
And here are the vids.
For comparisons sake firstly a vid with the engine cover.
Then a vid with the ITG intake.
And another video with the ITG but bonnet down.
Might get some drive by vids later tonight
-
thats sounds amazing!!! would love to hear some of inside and out when driving!!!
-
Sounds the business Pov :congrats:
-
roll on the drive by vids, we should do this wednesday on way home from amd?

:congrats: :congrats: :congrats:
Top job there mate and sounds pure
If the ITG would have been available back in July when I bought my EVOMS I would of bought it instead. The bodyshop did a good job on the bumper this time :happy2:
-
Looks and sound fantastic :congrats: :pomppomp:

No offence, but the Cupra is hardly a good looking car and the white only makes it look massive.
Why do people choose them over a Golf?

In your opinion. :booty:
Why do people choose the Golf? Less spec for more £.
-
Like I said, I don't want to cause offence, I just think they look particularly gash with the whole BTCC body kit thing. The car has quite a soft shape, and then a huge overly aggressive aero-kit bolted on, which I presume no function other than for visual appeal. I've just always though they look a bit, dare I say it, chavvy...
The Golf is a classy car.

Classy? where do you get that idea?
The leon isnt ment to be classy in my opinion, its a great all rounder. Family hatch with 5doors as standard without compromising the looks, as for the areo kit.. its for looks only yes
-
It has heritage. It's iconic.

They are or they're common as muck. Where I live I see more Leons than I do GTIs, mind you a lot are diesel FRs with the aero kit, driven by people who obviously presume that kit makes their car FAST!

Play nicely Mr Parker, after all this is a Build thread.
-
Sorry, may be I was being a bit naive, I've just read the review on Parkers and it does indeed look like a fine car. So congratulations.
Still couldn't live with the image mind, but perhaps that's me being superficial.

No offence, but the Cupra is hardly a good looking car and the white only makes it look massive.
Why do people choose them over a Golf?
because they are cheaper than an s3 and better than a golf.. the perfect middle man
great looks and faster
Oh really? :surprised: reaches for the ban button
We have better forums though!
damn can of worms !!
I agree with the forums being better :)

I would like to post the popcorn smiley but its not really the right thing to do in this case.
Andrew you have made your views clear about the leon thats enough now bud if you feel the need to carry on can you send them PM's please.
And the Leon boys you wont last 5 mins on here if you start dissin the golf, so have a think before you post please. :happy2:
-
... if you feel the need to carry on can you send them PM's please.
That was kind of the point really, I'm not targeting anyone in particular, just conversing with all. Anyway, I take your point, a build thread is not the place to do so.
Carry on ;)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What can be ugly to one man is a beauty to another. The K1 certainly draws alot of attention and turns heads though. People ever taken a pic of your car whilst you were driving it, or have young kids say "Woaahhh look at that dad"? Had old people comment on its looks and obviously all teenage boys love it too. And im 20 so I love it also. :happy2:
Like I said, I don't want to cause offence, I just think they look particularly gash with the whole BTCC body kit thing. The car has quite a soft shape, and then a huge overly aggressive aero-kit bolted on, which I presume no function other than for visual appeal. I've just always though they look a bit, dare I say it, chavvy...
The Golf is a classy car.
The bodykit isnt huge it might look that way but its not :happy2:
Chavvy is VXR etc
And classy arent repmobile favourites.
Audi A8, now that is classy.
It has heritage. It's iconic.
Leon Cupra arguably has more in common with the mk1 GTI than the current Golf GTI.
They are or they're common as muck. Where I live I see more Leons than I do GTIs, mind you a lot are diesel FRs with the aero kit, driven by people who obviously presume that kit makes their car FAST!
This made me chuckle, over on piston heads forums people were saying the same thing about Golf GTD and A3 TDI drivers. No doubt they would include Leon FR TDI drivers in this but we are often overlooked.

Image. Rep mobile? Im not sure what the image of SEAT is. Most people dont even know what one is. Image doesnt matter to me, I have no brand loyalty. At the time of buying the cupra I was simply after the greatest bang for buck which hands down the cupra is king of in the hothatch land. I drive my car, not sleep in it or caress the interior. If say Kia or hyundai came out with a car that blows the VAG hatches out of the water I would happily get that next. Live is too short to stick with one brand your entire life. Im a explorer, like to try new and different things
Anyway I dont mind a bit of banter or controversy, but as I see it there is a clear difference between the GTI, S3 and Cupra and ones choice ultimately depends on what they are after in a car.

Blueflame DP now fitted to std backbox. No decat due to a mixup but with a 100 cell cat.
The car is alot more responsive now, and spools up much quicker than before. The car is more growly on the go and has a deeper tone on tickover. On WOT the car makes less of the wooshing noise ie backpressure which is good.
AMD mentioned how it has made a very good improvment, as they werent too sure what the results would be like with only a dp but std catback.
Overall very happy, and shows that you dont necessarily need a full TBE for a nice performance increase.
-
Nice one :congrats:. My Remus dual output back box sounded like it wanted to explode after mating a milly dp on my first mk2. Gave good gains tho. :driver:
-
how have i missed this thred! :popcornsoda:
-
Well i personally think the Seat Leon looks ALOT nicer in the flesh. Apart from those hideous rear clusters  they are a VERY nice looking motor :happy2:
We choose what we choose for our own reasons. I bought the Edition30 because i have always liked Golfs and to me the MK5 GTi is the perfect car. To get a Limited Edition was a Bonus!
I might have considered a SEAT Cupra, if the price was right, but only because they are basically a VW.
I must say i LOVED the SEAT advert on the telly  That Salesman!
Anyway, Whats this BlueFlame exhaust like? How do they compare to others like Milltek, APR???

How is it producing 360bhp with stage 2 and no upgraded fuel pump? :surprised:

How is it producing 360bhp with stage 2 and no upgraded fuel pump? :surprised:
Highline figures are still there with stg2. Pump will just give more mid range and torque increase, shouldn't affect top end hp greatly. Mine saw 360 before the pump.
-
Didnt realise that, i always thought stage 2 made about 320ish... V good

Got my new custom discs fitted today after I managed to ruin the old ones after 9 months and 9,000 miles. Learnt the expensive way that the cupra doesnt have brake wear sensors :fighting:
They have 8 grooves in them, After plenty of research and confusion, I finally got hold of something that I was happy with.
Heres a pic of the old pads.

I have seen grooved discs fitted both ways, but my logic says that fitting them with the groove the other way than yours clean the pads more agressively, or am i wrong?? Daveb???

The logical way for fitting was the way we done them as in the pic, i dont think the other way round would work too well, suppose if pov has brake troubles we could try swapping em round.. its a 10 min job now we have done it once lol

The discs need to fitted fitted not according to the grooves, but according to the cooling vanes inside the discs!
