Thought I'd post up a bit of a thread on here. It seems a great site and full of lots of useful infomation so though I'd start contributing a bit more instead of just lurking.
Well here it is. I know it's a TDI, I know BUT It does have a GTI Splitter!
When I 1st bought it
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fi402%2Fdanmaytee90%2Fphoto-7.jpg&hash=d2a406a90d092a16ea85eb4d01bcc918616ad991)
Straight away I got the cambelt done and bought a cheapo Chinese headunit which is still working great a year and a half later
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fi402%2Fdanmaytee90%2Fcd-1.jpg&hash=440b34d4ab0a6f9858b430a5275e6f261940175e)
I experimented with my girl as I hated the chrome at 1st. Really liked this at the time but now I look back on it and hate it. Luckily it was only Plast dip :happy2:
I then decided to buy some new wheels. I ended up with some Rotiform BLQ style wheels. 19x8.5 with an offset of 45.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fi402%2Fdanmaytee90%2Fphoto2-2_zps41c5a2f1.jpg&hash=f78e440db293299927b5f46b2df14366045e0fbd)
With them being quite big I knew I was going to need it low. But I wanted to keep it so it was still driveable and I could get my foot down when I wanted. So I bought some FK Streets.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fi402%2Fdanmaytee90%2F2D67355F-770E-456B-8741-DD518D2D0CF8-370-0000000351E230A2_zpsd5ba01d5.jpg&hash=75beecfb70526aa3f1d1c67a603eb403b38e490f)
Started looking a lot better. I also decided to use some tint spray on my rear lights as I wanted them similar to the R32 and unfortunately the Golf ones don't fit the Jetta so it was up to me to improvise. I think they actually came out pretty good! Keep an eye out further down as there will be some better photos
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fi402%2Fdanmaytee90%2FB4929AE0-CE20-4A15-AB75-4488450DBA68-2711-000000DBA1451915_zpsfcdbd6e8.jpg&hash=a0c32c9aa1829d7d3da2a53523dde0d1790156b3)
Also a little tip to protect your coilovers to stop them seizing. Electrical tape! Just spray some grease onto the threads and wrap them up in tape and when you take the tape off next time to adjust they'll be perfect. I'd also recommend a small tie wrap around the end of the tape to stop it peeling off.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fi402%2Fdanmaytee90%2Fimage_zps90143d2f.jpeg&hash=0c179c307535ff59cfc382fbaf446fc402af01ce)
As mentioned earlier I hated the Chrome so I decided to spray the slats black. It actually came out really nice and I prefer it a lot better than them being chrome
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fi402%2Fdanmaytee90%2Fnull_zpsbca41fcf.jpg&hash=2c523c9b24ad61b9e72d162f7ab92e1aa30ffc9c)

Modding kind of stopped for a couple of months as I was really skint and strapped for cash. I then managed to get the clutch and flywheel changed due to my DMF Failing. xJay1337 Kindly gave me his old Valeo SMF and clutch kit from his old TDI. Managed to get it fitted and it felt like a new car.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fi402%2Fdanmaytee90%2FIMG_2208_zpsb5c9f43b.jpg&hash=9187f8b5fcb7018e851c11d3050593a31a6afe5d)
I then decided to get it remapped (Awesome GTI £150 Generic remap offer) and it transformed the car. It's quite a safe map and there isn't as much torque as I thought it would be but still for a £150 it was a bargain.
Now we've finally gotten to this week. xJay1337 also kindly gave me his GTI Splitter seem as he upgraded to a Votex one (Lucky git). Anyway soon as it arrived I set about to fitting it.
Quick test fit to make sure it went on ok
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fi402%2Fdanmaytee90%2Fphoto12_zps089eed14.jpg&hash=d4af9097b4586923a39efb43786a214bcff175b2)
Then to get it all back together.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fi402%2Fdanmaytee90%2FDSC_1093_zps9d812df2.jpg&hash=d92dfa47512149ac3ef8ea34e76c1039ae441359)
It's got a few spots that need a heatgun getting on them but I shall hopefully be doing that today.
Here are a few random photos anyway. You can see the lights I sprayed alot better in the 1st one.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fi402%2Fdanmaytee90%2FDSC_1080_zpsdcd1ffff.jpg&hash=a173b9d02ccc172023947665dc73477397aca731)

I've also been thinking about turning it into a coupe. Although the back window is slightly too big and would look odd
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fi402%2Fdanmaytee90%2F1426739_233983293436126_1040221803_n_zpsdf57ccfc.jpg&hash=38cacd2f1b7bc4dbd8d12840b450974e278ce07b)
I'd need to use the front end of a 3 door Golf and the boot of the Jetta for it to look right or to move the B pillar back somehow.

It seems like to much work for me so that idea will only ever be an idea unfortunately
I should also have some new wheels at the end of Feb/Beginning of March . I won't stay what they are but they're still 19"
-
looks really well on those wheels mate :happy2:
-
Thanks mate . Kind of gone off them now though  . Looking forward to getting my new ones though. It's quite weird you've just commented. I'm currently reading through your build thread now haha.
-
Looks nice mate. A great choice of colour but I would say that :signLOL:

Haha it is definitely this colour to go for . There was a silver Jetta I was also looking at when I bought mine. Near enough same spec, history, mileage etc but I ended up paying £800 extra just to have the blue one
-
Haha I was the same. Although I paid a little extra due to the low mileage. So what do you have planned next?

Honestly... I'm not sure yet! I've got the new wheels lined up but after that I'm not sure. I was thinking of getting air ride but I'd also like to get the front end and a couple of panels sprayed due to stone chips
-
Very, Very Nice!
-
Really smart Jetta matey :congrats:
-
Thanks guys
-
Looking good. Wheels really suit the car :happy2:
-
Thanks dude :). I thought it would be hard to pull off 19's but I managed to get it just right I think :)
-
Come on, Dan. Update this, as you've changed a few things :happy2:
-
Come on, Dan. Update this, as you've changed a few things :happy2:
I'll have to get it updated soon! :). I've not really changed too much though :(
-
Right then guys, bit of an update as it's been a while. It's nothing major as I haven't had the funds to do too much unfortunately.
Firstly I decided to have a go at correcting my paint. I used a DAS6 Pro with a couple of hex logic pads and some Menzerna FG500 and some SF4000 to finish it off. I started with an old bonnet for the scrap yard to practice on and managed to get some really good results
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fi402%2Fdanmaytee90%2FDSC_1229_zps3f5f4e34.jpg&hash=14e554f4999f6458e747140176350a69af587736)
Anyway I bit the bullet and got to work on my car
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fi402%2Fdanmaytee90%2F1724405_262069443960844_1445743398_n_zps87f4111b.jpg&hash=47f794dc4ff70db5ca42507c2407cad747b09351)
Unfortunately I didn't get any before/after photos but managed to get one as I finished.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fi402%2Fdanmaytee90%2F1622754_266654680168987_1004171419_n_zps8d56f24e.jpg&hash=9cd975dcbe544be90c36906fadcde2e30edfe44e)
There are still quite a few places that need going over again which I will get onto doing soon but overall I was very impressed to say it was my 1st go.
I also sorted out a group buy over at Uk-mkivs for some number plate surrounds. They arrived a few weeks back now and got them fitted straight away.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fi402%2Fdanmaytee90%2FDSC_1452_zps8422a98d.jpg&hash=5aff268024831be7185a1380a97e1276c975de1f)

Now onto the bigger news. I managed to sell my BLQ reps after humming and harring for a while about selling them. I was quite nervous at first because I loved the fitment of them. Anyway I bit the bullet and they went for £600 and while I was waiting for some new wheels it was back to the standard ones for the time being. I actually quite liked the look of it to be honest! :)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fi402%2Fdanmaytee90%2FDSC_1498_zps87db1932.jpg&hash=a8e4446cd83fd12bf55347141066116f457a5d79)
I finally got my new wheels. Nothing special as I wanted to keep it looking clean and OEM. They're only reps as I wanted 18s (I was destroying the 19's due to the stretch and really low profile) and the genuine ones have a really high offset and are only 7.5j, I wanted at least 8j and a offset of around 40. I managed to get these which are 18x8 ET42 all around. I went with 215/40 tyres all around, 5mm spacers and -2.2 degrees of camber on the rear. I'm really happy with the wheels and the fitment and really glad I stepped down from the 19s. Would of really liked genuine ones though but I wouldn't of been happy with the fitment which is a shame because I paid the same as I would for a genuine set for the reps. Anyway enough of that here are some photos.

The front isn't higher, the wheels are just turned very slightly

A big thanks to Toluco Photo for this brilliant one.

That's all for now but I'll try and remember to keep updating this as things happen. I have quite a few new things happening soon too! ;)
-
yeyar :happy2: I love the picture of your car with the standard wheels. The paint looks amazing
-
Thanks dude :). The paint is a bit marked at the moment though :(. I used a contaminated microfiber and didn't noticed until it got into the sun. Hoping I can polish it out by hand if not then the DA will be coming back out lol.
-
Loving this colour (nothing wrong with silver) and prefer the 18's. Side skirts will help to finish off the textured front and rear.
Great work :happy2:

Great work :happy2:
Thanks dude. I do plan on side skirts soon actually. Mainly to cover up a bit of damage from the widow maker :(. All the textured bits will be coloured coded eventually though :)
-
Much prefer the speedlines just need spacing a little :happy2:
can't think of any car that the BLQ's suit
keep an eye out for some xenons they would finish the front end off lovely

Thanks dude. I've got a 5mm spacer on the back and that's as much as I can go without risking damaging the arch if I hit a pothole or uneven bit of road. The fronts could do with spacing a tad though but do occasionally rub already.
I'm definetely after some xenons in the future though. Something I've wanting for a while :)
-
Right so I'm slowly getting a few little issues sorted with the car.
Hopefully August time I will be getting 2 new wings.
New tyres and more lows
GLI Side skirts
All the black textured bits colour coded.
Also just done oil and filters. I'm going to do the oil again in 5k and then filters again in 10k. Want to keep on top of it and make the car last. I've had to purchase a new exhaust bracket due to mine snapping. Will hopefully get this fitted soon. Not exactly sure why it has broken but the new one I have is steel so should be ok for the life of the car now.

Other than that nothing much new has happened. I've gave the car a good clean and machined a couple of panels and will be doing the rest in time.
Couple of obligatory photos once it had been cleaned...

^^^^ Great shot, great angle and a lovely and clean car :happy2:

Thought I'd update this as it's been a while. Nothing major but still worth doing! :)
I went to adjust my coilovers and they're seized solid. Tried everything to unseize them but I just ended up wrecking the adjuster rings. I need some new ones for MOT time as now the adjusters are knackered the spring doesn't automatically seat correctly being let down after being jacked up. I'm hoping for some Apex RDXs but funds are really right at the moment as I'm getting married next year so it'll most likely be FK's again :(.

And more recently I've been correcting the paint work (again) due to more swirl marks which I caused using QD when my car was was beyond just a little dusty.

It took around 17 hours in total (inc prep). I wanted to get it looking nice for the Uk-Mkivs MegaMeet as I entered it into the show and shine, which paid off!

I won the Overall Winner and Peoples choice, best in show. Was extremely surprised as I wasn't expecting anything. It's made my year! So glad all my hard work paid off :)

Well done, Dan :happy2:. Your Jetta looks awesome now it's been machine polished

Thanks dude . I'm really happy with how it looks. I just need to go over the drivers side and the bonnet a bit more :(. The pad I was using got to the point it wasn't cutting as good anymore so there are still a few swirls in the sun on that side. Going to order a new orange Hexlogic pad soon and give it a 2-3 passes and it should be a lot better :)

Thought I'd give a quick update to keep this thread alive.
Managed to fly through the MOT last month surprisingly! Had to raise it up quite a bit though due to it having no helper springs. This was quite a task as the coilovers were seized. Anyway 3 hours later I managed to get them loose.

They're all greased up now and wrapped in electrical tape to stop any grit sticking to them (cable tie around the tape to stop it peeling off).
Looked absolutely terrible raised right up and actually handled really badly!

Anyway I got it through the MOT and got it wound back down (down a few extra mm on the fronts)

I've managed to try the Gtechniq G Wash Shampoo that I won as part of a Gtechniq kit at the Uk-Mkivs MegaMeet. Average amount of suds but absolutely lots of lubrication. I normally use Meguiars Wash and Wax but I 100% prefer this. I'd highly recommend it to anyone. The tyre and trim gel is amazing too. Looking forward to seeing how long it lasts.
Quick video of water sheeting. Not bad to say it was last waxed two months ago. Just giving it another coat now! :)

Also I've decided where I am going with the car. I'm going for the GLI side skirts still but I'm going to get the wheels painted gold (same as the Clio Williams wheels) with a polished lip. I'm also going to debadge the back of the boot and get it filled in. I just need to wait as the car has a few spots of rust that I need to get sorted by VW. The Sills are almost rusted through where the wing joins them (luckily this can't be seen unless you look through the gap), around the number plate lights and on the notch on my bonnet. Hopefully VW will sort this for free fingers crossed.
Anywhere a quick photoshop of how I'm hoping to get it looking minus the skirts.

So it's been a while but nothing much has happened.
I tried a GTI grill on but I didn't like it. Would of looked better with some proper side grills I think though.

Managed to pick up a set of Depo Xenons. Fitted a 4300k HID kit and I did the 6 o'clock mod and the output is brilliant.

Met up with Joss (you may have seen his Jetta on here) as he was buying my old Subwoofer. Unfortunately his car broke down on my drive (power cable to the power steering module had corroded and snapped off). None of our bodges would work so we called the AA who luckily had some spare connected and sorted it out for him. This gave me time to get some snaps of his car.

Also I managed to sell my old stereo and purchased a new one. I was going to go for the RCD510 as I wanted an OEM unit but deciding I wanted Satnav as well I didn't want to fork out for the RNS510. I ended up getting an Erisin unit (Chinese brand) and I couldn't be happier with it. Has all the usual gizmos but it also communicates directly through the canbus so I can get OBD info etc :). The only thing I do not like is the font on the buttons but I will get over it.
