Post by: GTI-Ross on January 20, 2014, 04:31:41 pm
Hey guys, ive tried searching and i can only find threads without pictures. Im looking for a details guide on how to fit lowing springs. I know the rear will be super easy, just not sure on the front.

Can anyone link me to a detailed guide or video.

Thanks guys

If the Mk6 is the same or very similar to the Mk5 a good tip is to undo the 3 nuts the hold the lower arm to the hub and keep the arm held down whilst hitting the hub downwards to get the shock out of the hub.

Also remove the ARB drop link from the shock and try and keep the ARB held down.

But the best tip is to use lots of penetrating fluid and a big hammer!

Thats a good link, I always prefer videos so i can visualize it, cant believe there is no video out there for it. There seems to be a video for everything on Youtube  :fighting2:

Because the strut sits in the hub, I found it easier to remove both from the car to change the struts.
I also found that swearing a lot was no help at all

I changed mine recently. Used the below how to's as a guide, but didn't take my drive shafts out if the hubs.

I would recommend having someone assist you. I found I had a bit more movement by having both sides up on axel stands and having the anti roll bar unbolted on both sides. I didn't have one but I would advise getting the strut spreader tool. And I used an electric impact wrench/gun to get the top strut nut off.
Ended up with a lot of scraped knuckles and swearing like crazy. The rears were a piece of cake.

They're both basically the same?!?

I did the same as this: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?3043490 but I didn't remove the "27mm axel bolts" I left the drive shaft in the hub. In this guide you see the hub taken off the drive shaft. I found it difficult to remove the shock on the passenger side so if you do take the hub off the drive shaft you may find its easier to get the shocks out.
