You'd be desperately back peddling on your order right now, eh!!!

Sounds funny. Germany is really pushing the uber-hatch. Can't wait for the 1/2M and RS3

so the pecking order of the MK7 Golf line up could potentially be:

Golf R Evo
Golf R
Golf GTI Edition 40
Golf GTI Performance
Golf GTI

hmm, does seem like a large number of models!

This is exactly why they are encrypting ECUs so they can push people to the higher powered models

I would not be surprised if this is priced north of £40k with all the special weight saving material they are talking about it having. That may focus your mind a little

Some good points made here esp. regarding the locking down of the ECU and VW charging a premium for a "better" model.

It would be VERY interesting to see whether the R and R Evo (if they do indeed put it forward) make exactly the same power after a decent tuner had been given time "unlocking" them both to full potential.  Or infact the Evo went on to make another 50+bhp... so the premium price was truly based on hardware.

What brakes do the 7R have?

.

Looking at the pricing between the current 7 GTI and 7R, wouldn't you be mad to buy the GTI... ..?

A dream car for me is a Porsche GT3 RS 4.0. A Golf R Evo is affordable on a decent PCP package.

Suprised they are not using the 2.5

Just seen an Audi Q3RS today £46k detuned dogs dinner, so that is 3 models so far that have the 2.5 engine

I would have thought they would look to fit it under more bonnets

It's about time vw done this ! They need to do it right though harnesses somber colours with red wheels etc just like a gt3

TBH despite the fact I really dislike a lot in the looks department both inside and out I'd consider one of these if they do it right priced at £33-35k it should be a good seller

I don't think it'll see production. They'll hardly sell any.

I can afford to buy one it's insurance that would likely be the problem.
If insurance wasn't a killer I'd be in a B7 RS4 now not a GTI :(

I wouldn't want PCP I would either do personal loan and buy the car in cash or 5 year finance outright.
PCP/HP not for me.

I don't think it would see production either tbh especially in a stripped out version, it's to radical for vw but in my opinion it is where they should be going  - but if they do it right megane r26 r style it will sell, VW have a huge fan base and judging by the the standard R ring time this one should be a whole lot faster and for that reason it will sell massively (if priced right )

They may limit production numbers. Aswell.

Such an exercise is also good for sales on lesser models.

You'd be surprised. Insurance on new fast out the box cars is cheaper than modified cars.

£40k personal loan over 5 years eh? Fooked if I'd be spending circa £800 a month to "own" that*.

VW will build it, and bloody good on them too, they've been far too safe over the years and that's why the likes of French tat is kicking their arse in driver fun tests.

Need an Evo GTI now too.

*You still won't own it, stop paying the loan and see who owns it then.

With the recent spate of performance hatches delivering 300+bhp, VW has to up their game to keep in the game.

The new Honda Type R is being touted as having maybe 280-340bhp
The Merc A45 AMG has over 330bhp
BMW M1 has similar power.

So, the MKVII Golf R Evo having 370bhp would be a very good reposte, especially if it could deliver a sub 1400kg kerb weight too.

I hope for VW's sake that they make it. :happy2:

I wouldn't be so sure mate. Even with the media hype and the hoon factor the R26R brought, it was still considered a real flop with regards sales in the UK. IIRC there was only 80ish sold in this country and the rest were exported back out.

With regards the Golf R Evo (& S3+ if the media is to be believed) - I just can't see it having 370bhp with a few 'minor tweaks'. For a start, where would the S3+ sit in their line up with the new RS3 on the horizon?!?! Would they then need to make the RS3 420+bhp and then step on the RS4's toes?
My guess would be a 325-330bhp level edition. Either way, I'd still be pissed if I had just put my Golf R order in and it had gone to build..

Thats the one hot hatch on the horizon that im interested in.  The only thing wrong with the last two type Rs was no mid range torque.  Thats no longer an issue.  I reckon its going to be epic!

Same here!! They are taking their sweet time over it so will probably have the turbo petrol thing sussed by 2015. If it's anything like their previous engines, it should be bomb proof - no DV or PCV issues.

Recon it will suffer from carbon on the valves though as it's direct injection with a similar PCV to the TFSI (from what I can tell from the photos) :sad1:

If it wasn't for the poxy short shifting in the first 2 gears (5700rpm shift points to presumedly protect the drive trian) , I dare say it would of gone a decent amount quicker on the 0-xxx figures. Bloody thing is in 3rd at 46mph when using LC...  :stupid:

I think the point is it's all borrowing money, there's just slightly different names for it.
