well its doable in your car but you have 2 flaps buried in the heater unit somewhere and the mk6 unit is designed for one flap, but people have done it but may not be exactly like your mk5 unit

have a read through this

This looks brilliant and a huge improvement over the OEM one. My car is a 2006 and I'm about to do this swap, can I ask you how hard it is? And did it work out of the box or were there complications? I've read I may need a different loom

I'm about to do this and reading the various how to threads (posted above).
My car is  2006 GT TDI.

Can someone confirm the pin swap on connector A (black), as I've read conflicting information:
Is it:
Extract Pin 16 and Pin 20. Put pin 16 into pin 20 slot, leave pin 20 loose. May have to cut / change the pin connector as its a different size?
(So pin 16 moves to pin 20)
OR
Extract Pin 16 and Pin 20. Cut the end off pin 20. Splice into pin 16, put back into pin 16 slot.
Put pin 16 into pin 20 slot, leave pin 20 loose.
Tape the bare end of 20.
(So 16 & 20 both goto pin 16, pin 20 is now empty).

If that doesn't work, try the swaps mentioned regarding plugs B / C?

@paulmk5gti (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=5360) what did you do, your car is same year as mine so will hopefully be the same.

EDIT: Found the answer in this thread:
http://vwnavi.com/volkswagen-factory-fit-navigation-systems/rns-510-mfd3-navi-system/9170-climatronic-screen-4-print.html (http://vwnavi.com/volkswagen-factory-fit-navigation-systems/rns-510-mfd3-navi-system/9170-climatronic-screen-4-print.html)

Now to work out the air quality sensor, again it doesnt seem clear on where the 3 pins goto:
Quote
Quality Sensor Wiring (OPTIONAL if you bought the module that handles it):
On C Connector (black):
Pin 1 from Quality Sensor to Pin 20 (which we replaced by Pin 16 on Climatronic, remember?)
Pin 2 from Quality Sensor is Ground goes to Pin 19
Pin 3 from Quality Sensor to Pin 4 on Climatronic

Does this mean:
Pin 1 - connector A Pin 20
Pin 2 - connector A Pin 19
Pin 3 - Connector A Pin 4
 :stupid:
Thanks
Jas

All I did was cut both wires 16 and 20 then solder them the other way round. The connectors as mentioned are different sizes so cannot just be extracted from the plug and swapped. My understanding is you leave 20 loose so it can be connected to the air quality sensor but it is not required for the unit to function. It only allows the auto recirc function. All you will get is a fault message in VCDS saying something along the lines of air quality sensor open circuit.

Hope this helps.

Cheers @Matto. Did you install the air quality sensor? Do the 3 wires run to the same black connector at the panel (connector A)?

I have the sensor but haven't got round to fitting it. Tbh the thought of being upside down in the footwell trying to feed wires through puts me off but yes the 3 wires feed back to the unit. It does sound from the write they all go into Connector A.

Reading through the other links, there seems quite a few problems with the AC etc working afterwards. It seems too complicated for me to attempt on my own, but if we all got together and had an expert on hand to help with the complicated stuff, I might be interested.
A kind of group buy/group fit  :signLOL:

Check your compressor works with the new panel first before doing any wiring changes

If you're hopeless get someone with some knowledge about changing wires. You'll need to modify at least one to make your new control panel keep the settings after you turn off the car.

Awesome mod this peeps, such a big improvement of the Mk5 OEM one. I'd highly recommend jumping on a GB, add the AQS sensor at the same time, cheap and def worth it.
