Looking forward to it. They compare the hot hatches from their youth, to those today (apparently). Jezza goes for a Golf GTI, Hammond for a Nova (), and James for a Fiesta XR2.
Could be good, but am sure it will be a case of modern cars aren't as good as the originals... :indifferent:

Thinking exactly the same!
Other than the 80's yobbing, I didn't enjoy it... If they ACTUALY compared them to the modern equivalents it would have been brilliant...

As it stood, garbage. No longer a show about cars except the odd episode dedicated to super cars no one can afford.....

It falls under the 'entertainment' umbrella. Not the 'auto journalism' one.

It was what i expected it to be like - Was i disappointed ? - Yes

The Nova/XR2/GTI thing ran through the whole programme and it never once compared the three cars to modern day equivalents (the hill climb thing wasn't really as all three cars were crap condition etc) So what really was the point ? Was it entertaining , a little but the b eing chased by the police bit was too long and rather pathetic .

Will i watch the next programme ? Yes of course as what other motoring shows are there - very few - surprised something else hasn't appeared to compete or rival Top Gear

I thought it was boring - we all know when they buy cars for these challenges thay are going to be A- sh*te and B Break down a lot , its been done so many times before , the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car thing has ran its course as well tbh - I want to see more new car reviews , even if its things I will never be able to afford , thats when TG shines.

I watched it..always do. Thought it was a poor episode myself.
But the supermarket crashing made me chuckle. In an Austin Powers kind of way.

My highlight was the season preview clips at the start.
Rear shot of the Macca P1 on a smidge of opposite lock..belching blue flames out of its dustbin sized exhaust.
That will be episode 2 then..

How on earth would a Vauxhall Nova compare to say a Corsa VXR... simply wouldn't, no point even comparing them.

Tbh if I was offered a mint Nova GTE or a Corsa VXR , I'd be having the Nova.

I agree loved that alfa aswell I know they are crap have driven quite a few both classic and modern but there is something about them! and an alfa V6 on chat is probably the best sounding engine in my humble opinion!

Better programme last night , Star in RPC is wearing a bit thin and hopefully something a bit more entertaining to replace it . When Jeremy says " Who wants to see his lap " everyone should say NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO and that would be the end of it . There , thats got rid of that bit EASY  :happy2:

I agree I dont think the guages suited the rest of the car but most modern hyper cars accelerate so so violently that that conventional analogue clocks cant keep up with the real time speed this is the case with the Lexus LFA. Mclaren are fastidious with detail and technology so this Is why I assume they opted for this style of digital clock arrangement!

Agreed and on cars like the LFA etc they look great, but just thought it looked really dated!

Spot on! My folks said 'how much is this costing the licence payer' - as I said, I'd rather it is spent on this than some of the other dross BBC put out...

Burma looked beautiful, that's for sure...

For the most of it seemed staged and then you get the really funny parts (bridge braking) that are clearly unplanned, marrows called F*ck, Captain slow picking a right lemon of a truck and Jezza tilting the crane, all of which made me Loll Out Loud!!

What's in store for next week??
Well worth the licence fee  :happy2:

There'll only be the "Christmas" specials before long, series length seems to get shorter and shorter due to costs. How many was there this time? 6 including the 2 part special????
Title: Re:
Post by: MPS on March 17, 2014, 11:45:14 pm
Yep. Its a farce. Looking back at the Wikipedia entry for Top Gear old series there used to be around 10 episodes per series which then decreased to 6 or 7. Think it happened after Hamster had his upside down encounter in that jetcar.

Budget cutbacks. Let's face it.. A few weeks away messing about in three lorries will work out quite expensive
