Title: New brakes required
Post by: Madman1886 on January 25, 2014, 11:14:28 am
Its got to that time that I need new discs and pads all round, and as the car is stage 1 remapped I feel they need upgraded a bit from the standard items. Not wanting to go down a full brake upgrade (yet) was wondering what upgraded discs and pads are out there and what anyone else is using and if they're any good......cheers  :pomppomp:

i would fit standard rears (saving some money from uprating them) and spend the extra on uprating the front brakes!

after having my car less then 3 days i soon found out the oem brakes weren't up to the job so i did a big brake upgrade on the front!

now i am stage 1 im so glad i did the brakes 1st! GOD knows how you stop on standard brakes on your stage one haha

it requires a lot of forward planning, and being very quick with the DSG lol what upgrade did you do to the front brakes mate?

mine is a 4 pot brembo off the audi TT-RS with ap rotors and vagbremtechnic bells and bracket..... cost me £900 used BUT its a bit overkill!!

you could get a pair of used porsche 996 calipers and brackets off ebay for approx £400-£500

Try changeling the fluid too. Makes a difference on brake fade if you have original fluid.

I like the idea of r32 brakes. They are good and very OE+

If getting the 345mm setup have a look at ECP Pagid 340mm TTS discs, they are £46 each with discount and 2kg lighter than the R32 ones (as well as being cheaper) and come with treated bells so they haven't rusted yet.

Edit: should say that the 340mm discs were about £27 cheaper than 345mm discs from ECP last month - better discs and better value.

For the price to upgrade discs and pads, you might be able to source a set of used R32 fronts.

As for upgraded stock discs, dont bother wasting your money, just stick a standard set as there is no performance gain to be had there.  Pads on the other hand will make a big difference.  DO you do track or is it strictly road?

I'm in a similair position to this. I am putting together my NQSBBK in bits month by month but i'm still a while away. Meanwhile my pads are running out of meat and scaring the hell out of me!!!!!  :driver: :scared:

If anyone has any suggestions of a set of front performance pads for the standard setup that makes an ok difference but doesnt break the bank i'd appreciate it!

Could you post a link to these Pagid 340mm discs on ECP you mentioned?

Certainly mate, it is http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Audi_TT+Coupe_2.5_2010/p/car-parts/brakes/brake-friction/brake-disc/?104448208&1&1cdd5d40e1e3e1a04311ed45b5396bdcd6a541e7&000027

R32 ones I think are £120 compared to £93 still
