you've probably turned on the ignition whilst the passenger airbag disengaged light in the vents was possibly disconnected?? you'll need either someone with VCDS or vw to reset the light

adaptors can be found all over ebay or possibly eddie-nl on here or car systems.pl

what do you need to know about bluetooth as its quite easy

and have you got the menu in the red mfd on audio for the up and down arrows to change track or radio station etc?

Thanks Si! Bluebooth I heard wasn't just a plug and play :/ haven't really looked at it yet as it got dark! There doesnt seem to be an audio section any more on the mfd? :/

vcds is the diagnostic tool to aid in lots of things,

I'm 100% sure your 510 will need a bit of coding done to remove a tick in a box called bap, this is why your menus aren't there anymore

also you need to tell the car that it has a bluetooth module installed

did you just by it all from ebay?

No I got it off a lad off the other gti forum! Are these vcds tools expensive? If not is the coding simple and setting all the other parts up or not?  Why can't it just be simple haha

did he have a mk6?

you dont want to buy it just for that, have a look on here for vag com (vcds) locations hopefully theres someone near you that can code it up and cancel your airbag light for a beer :)

your not near kent are you?

I'm sure someone will help you out and if you want to read about VCDS go to Ross Techs site

i think with an 07 your going to get an issue matey, you might want to contact Eddie-NL on here he might do the modified firmware you can use (really cheap fix) or long term more expensive fix would be to change your can gateway.

how new was the polo as i'm still trying to get to the bottom of your menus going, i think i'm right though

As stated earlier if you disconnected the airbag in the top vent then this is the reason why you have the airbag out.

simple reset with VCDS, just make sure you have plugged the connetor back in properly and it clicked back into place.

iirc pre 2007 mk5 models suffer from batter drain.

1 - if your running older FW on the RNS, do not update until you can get a newer CANBUS (if your car is pre 2007 or you will suffer.

2 - if you get any issues get a newer CANBUS. I can sort that out if you like. send me a PM :happy2:

hope you get it all sorted matey lots to contend with when its all new for you

If your not mechanically minded fitting a new can gateway can be interesting to say the least!

So if you find someone on the list to do the coding keep in mind the above.

Cheers Si very grateful for all this! Hopefully can get it sorted and not ruin my battery on the way! I am mechanically minded I'm a mech in the RAF but as a heavy (mech) not a fairy (AV) I rather hit things with a hammer than splice a wire  :signLOL:

i know many fitters at work like that as i'm a sparky, the piss taking every day between all of us, never stops being funny, but i do play on being "a limp wristed electrician" and get them to do all my heavy work lol

Have a look here and read the Can gateway ones - then you'll have an idea if that's your type of play?

That's good to read you like a challenge but without VCDS you'll not have control of your cars mind, even if it just ticking a box!

As said by Si-R32 (Eddie-NL) is a top bloke for buying off and offering advice including support if you want to do the job yourself so keep that in mind cause support on self install is a must!
