Bought in October but haven’t really had a chance to do much with it due to work and personal comments, hopefully that is going to change
Apart from some minor scratches and being covered in tar spots the paint work is in pretty decent condition but it does need a proper clean.

Don't intend on going nuts modding it, just adding a couple of refinements to keep it interesting
-

Agree. This is my 4th GT TDi, the last three of which have had Xenon headlights so I miss them. My daily commute is circa 90 miles most of which is on the A34 which isn't that well lit so can't wait to replace my current candles.

Picked mine up on ebay, it's a Rev B and set me back a massive £50
I have seen a couple of later ones go for £60ish but I always forget to bid on them!
The remote boot release is taken from the 2009+ Passat and is in addition to the fuel cap release so you can pop the boot from the comfort of the drivers seat. I have the link on my mac, I'll dig it out for you.

thanks for that mate..i'll have a read in a while!!
:happy2:
-
Does the 7P6 bluetooth work with the red Highline or is it White only
Thanks John
-
Red dot but you have to have a Highline display and RNS510/RCD510
-
Yeah I have both thanks for quick reply
-
After 4-5 weeks of even a light knock on the drivers side when going over slightly rough ground the cause has at last been found and thankfully fixed. Picked the car up this afternoon with a new genuine VW Gen3 steering rack, subframe track rods including ends and ball joints the downside is its cost me nearly £400 to fix however if the car wasn't under warranty it would have been nearly £1500!
Took the long way back to road test and i can not believe how responsive the steering feels now
-
The task for today was to fit some number plate lights bought from MyLitCo on ebay, it should have taken no more than 20-30 minutes to do however thanks to broken tabs on the old light units getting both out of the bumper took nearly an hour.
Tested the LEDs before fitting and only one worked so :fighting:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi184.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fx211%2Fdegudodger%2FLEDS_zps60315f1d.jpg&hash=46bc098cd6b9a0bb9cf74d2d253e70172fd99561)
I have refitted the old ones for now but they will need replacing.
-
I had the same problem on my car!
-
Replacement LED lights arrived yesterday from MyLitCO so whilst i was waiting for Mrs DD having her daily Radiotherapy session i thought i would swap the lights over. Guess what, they didn't work also! :fighting:
As i don't seem to have be having much luck with the whole LED lights thing i am just going to fit some T10 W5W 6 SMD LEDS in some new bulb holders at least then if the LEDs fail i can replace them with standard bulbs.

Which lasted about 10 minutes before they stopped working. :fighting:

Finally got round to fitting the Xenon headlights I've had in the garage for a couple of months. Start to finish it took 2.5 hours and was completely painless.
Better photos to follow

oh very nice indeed
-
My last three Golfs had Xenon headlights, as good as Osram Nightbreaker plus bulbs are they are nowhere near as good as Xenon headlights.
Just got to find a rear levelling sensor then i can retrofit auto levelling
-
First engine mod - sort of
Went to check the oil level this morning and noticed the top of the air intake was missing, checked around the engine bay and couldn't find it so can only assume it dropped out somewhere over the last week. Bought the part from TPS only to find Rev E has since been superseded by Rev J which is a slightly different shape meaning you also have to swap out part if the intake housing, both parts came to less than £10 so not exactly expensive.

I just bought one here 2 days ago.cheapest i could find.
-
That might be an option. Getting a little annoyed with breakers sending me incorrect or broken parts so i might just buy new.

New part number for the rear sensor from 01/05/2008 is 1K0 941 273 L - £130:21
However, these could be worth an email

This is the first time i have used a rattle can in 20+ years and i'm impressed with the results. The finish is not as gloss as i was hoping but it still better than i thought it would be
-
Gave the Golf a full service, the cabin filter was horrendous and looked like it hadn't been changed in a couple of years!
Also got round to fitting some Interior foot well and Maps reading LEDs i have had knocking round for a while.
-
Pirelli P-Zero tyres on the front had worn down to 2mm so replaced with Goodyear F1 Asymmetric, at circa £95 each i am absolutely amazed how great they feel.
Also fitted a boot pop kit which took 20 minutes to fit and a further hour to adjust the bump stops to actually get the boot to pop. fours "notches" seems to work
-
U worked out the auto dip passenger mirror yet Ant?
-
I knew there was something i had forgotten - leave it with me
-
Not really had the time or inclination to work on the Golf so spent a couple of hours today doing some stuff i have been meaning to do for a while.
Quick gearbox oil change. After 75k miles/7 years the oil was think, black and STANK!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi184.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fx211%2Fdegudodger%2FKL07PEP%2Fphoto_zps83e63104.jpg&hash=30b856115e2b963f403ed9032436711e3ecf9e08)
Also sorted out a couple of squeaks round the back seat area and gave the boot a clean out.
Hoping to spend some time on the Golf over the next couple of weeks but we'll see what happens
-
Now with added DAB

Not sure if I'm so keen now after reading the last comment!
-
Hmm. See what you mean. If you get the Skoda/Seat/VW boot pop kit i can fit and code for you. It shouldn't take more than 30 minutes :)
-
Cheers buddy, will keep you posted. Just out of interest why did u take yours off?
-
was the dab aerial easy to fit?
-
Looking good
2006 2.0 FSi GT
-
Looking great, nice to see another 170 in the same colour :jumping:
-
was the dab aerial easy to fit?
Wasn't too difficult, just time consuming. Take your time, undo all the handles and it shouldn't take more than 2 hours :)
-
Thanks guys. It does need a damn good clean though :ashamed:
-
