I finally got round to trying to fit my Neuspeed CAI last week, but I'm stuffed on how to remove the OEM turbo intake pipe clamp.

I borrowed a few variations of mole grips, water pump wrenches, pliers etc but nothing would fit in the gap and grip it properly
Do I need to buy a special tool, like below?

What did you guys all use when fitting CAIs?
-
mole grips should work.. thats what i used. You need to use a fairly large pair, and set them up so they compress the spring and lock so you can pull the pipe off.
-
Yeah the special tool works the best, i have one but know idea what its called. Best thing to do once its removed is to replace it with a standard jubilee clip for easy removal next time.
-
Pain in the ass but as said mole grips will do the trick.
-
If you are really struggling.. Come up to me and ill fit it for you

Thanks for the offer, but it's probably a bit far just to remove a clip!
All the mole grips I tried were hitting the bulkhead and/or the timing belt cover. I removed the coolant overflow pipe to get a bit more space, but still couldn't get them to bite :(
-
They will work.. as thats what i used to get mine off. Just do it better!!
-
 fair comment!

Mine was a pain in the ass to remove, don't let it turn around as it makes it even harder to remove.
if in doubt have a brew and then attack again. :happy2:

Well after I failed with borrowed tools, I got home and realised I don't even own any mole grips :stupid:
So I invested £8 in these little beauties from eBay; worked a treat :happy2:

Nice little tool, I struggled with exactly same bit last weekend, ended up getting them with waterpump pliers. Pipe itself still took some getting off.
Might have to invest in a pair of those for £8 worth having.
-
Well worth investing, don't forget if you buy tools yourself, they are yours forever. :drinking:
-
Yeh. I figure I'm pretty likely to own more VWs, and no doubt they'll have some of these little buggers to undo!
In other news, the P-flo ain't half noisy :driver:

Rob, what did you find these under on eBay?
