As above really?
I've decided 100 miles is max to travel as if I had issues it's a long way 100+.
-
Depends if you are buying from Vw or another uk chain.
-
Will be an independent tbh budget is £7500 max.
-
20 miles. Probably the nearest of any cars I've ever bought lol.
Good job though, came from a dealer and lets just say when they said they'd put it through service for pre sales checks they didn't do a particularly good job and its been back 3 times so glad its not too far.

Thats the worry.

For the car I wanted I would travel full country but maybe that's just me who is a bit :stupid: :signLOL:
-
Got lucky and only had to travel 60 miles to get my ED30 from a VW garage, however i was prepared to go nationwide.
-
About 4 miles. Would have gone to 10 miles for it just because of the high spec.
-
I travelled 94 mile round trip for my Mk5 gti for a private sale to leave a deposit then the same again to pay and collect
I travelled a 400mile round trip twice for my R26R for a private sale, same again once to view and leave a deposit then another to go and collect
worth it if its the right car in my eyes
-
I travelled from sussex to southend on sea in essex for my mk5 and to reading for my mk6, because my local dealers prices are very inflated! Why not drive a 100 miles or more to save £1000!
Drove from sussex to manchester last year to buy my xr2 and again up to north wales to buy my escort.
-
Its all luck.
I travelled 20 miles to get mine from a main stealer. Had to be collected by them 3 times and I took it back twice! All sorted in the end but glad it wasn't too far.
14 months on and bar a few normal things that GTI's seem to need - done at my local, dependable indy - its been fine.
-
When I got my first Edition 30 it was in Bognor Regis and I'm in Liverpool, so 270 miles one way..
Quite far but travelling has never really bothered me, especially for the right car. Anyway the day I went down I was gonna pay the money straight into the guys account. There was a mix up and I couldn't pay the money there and then, gutted!
Anyway, I went down the following week with the cash to get it, so all in all pretty much 1100 mile to collect the car.. Lol!
-
6 miles, bought it from impulse. Best impulse buy ever! :driver:
-
I travelled 140 miles (one way) to get mine!
-
About 4 miles. Would have gone to 10 miles for it just because of the high spec.
Love that! :congrats:
OP, Its pot luck!
The furthest I've travelled was from Sussex was to Birmingham just to look at an Eddy and it was a dog, well p*ssed off even though it was advertised as a peach. Waited 6 months for the right one in the colour, spec etc etc etc that I wanted and one turned up just 15 miles away, go figure.
I also believe that once you find a garage you trust, it doesn't matter where they are, you travel. My local VW main dealer is (and I sh*t you not) less than 500 yards from my front door but I still do a 200 mile round trip to go see someone who knows what their doing and in whom I can trust.
If its worth it, you travel. It's no biggy.
:happy2:
-
About 200 mile round trip. The dealer put enough fuel in to get me home :happy2:
-
After searching for months and almost going to london for one! My car popped up just 40 miles away. Happy days! :drinking:
-
Malta  I win :signLOL:
-
6 miles
-
I travelled over 520 miles round trip for my first 06 plate gti and it developed a bottom end knock the same day I got it home !! Paid good money for it to from a we'll know performance car dealer in West Sussex , got my full money back after 2 weeks of complete hell ! I'll never travel that far again , 1 week later found the perfect gti 45 miles away from home lol
-
^^^^ I'm in West Sussex, which dealer?
-
15 miles
-
200 miles all together, 100 each trip (looking at it, then collecting)....
-
Viewed 2, one 3 miles away & the one I bought 15 miles luckily but would've travelled anywhere for the perfect car.
-
GTI World Edinburgh , only about 55 miles North of me so not too bad , had 3 cars off them in a row and never had a problem.
-
^^^^ I'm in West Sussex, which dealer?
My neck of the woods aswell, would also be interested to know which dealer.
-
About an hour
I probably travelled the best part of 500 miles in total visiting various dealers to look at various examples before deciding though
-
I went about 60 miles maybe, to a place near Edinburgh. Well worth the trip from mine I thought. There were loads of 5 door gti's near me but I didn't want a 5 door so had to go and find one
-
A round trip of 320 miles…twice.
I went down for a test drive to the south coast then two weeks later travelled down on the train with the money in a backpack, which was nice
-
140 miles/3 hours thanks to having to venture into London, then 200 miles back in considerably less than 3 hours..............
-
It was a 260 mile round trip to look at the car - although it is closer to 300 if including the Pirelli I looked at in Oxford on the same day. Berkshire, to Oxford, to Cardiff and back.
So, 300 miles, plus the trip to actually bring it home - total to end up with the car on my drive was c.430 miles!

Wasn't near Alford bars was it? Friend of mine phoned, paid a deposit to secure it off the market then went down within 2 hours and the car was sold! They had no record of him ringing etc until later that week, they did refund him though.
Another friends girlfriend bought a car from that dealer and within hours it was on the flatbed and off to audi for £££££ of work!
They had a eddy there when I was looking to buy one and of course I didn't even bother to ring
-
About 4miles.
Bought it from a car shop across town. :happy2:
-
About 2 miles Southend Vw I took my 61 plate polo in for a warranty job and see the pirelli so I bought it and gave the polo back lol

It was nearly 2 1/2 years ago now, churches performance cars
-
237 Swansea to Wigan, same spec car was £1000 cheaper than local dealer
-
I traveled 550 mile round trip today to pick mine up.
More then happy :happy2:
-
I was happy to travel as far as tank of fuel for a return journey, ended up going 2 miles up the road to Fulham after spotting my golf as soon as it was listed on Autotrader!
-

-
Drove from Bristol to Norwich got caught in tailbacks from accidents both ways. Left at 4 in the morning, got home at midnight..... It's all a distant memory...

Yep they were a nightmare to deal with when it all went pair shaped !! I feel very sorry for the person who bought the car after I took it back and got a refund ! It was a 56 plate steel grey gti , it was took back on a Saturday they re advertised it on the Monday then 2-3 days later it totally disappeared from there website !!

-
I drove from where I live to Cardiff for mine. 140 miles and 2.5hrs private sale. Was one of the best car buying experiences I've had tbh.
-
Depends on how far you're willing to travel. I travelled less than 100 miles one way due to the car having low mileage and full VWSH. Easy to take back should I need to use their warranty.
-
20 mile round trip, very lucky to find such a good one so close to home
-
If its the right car and right spec, then think you have to be willing to travel. My 306 came from south wales, 600 mile round trip, my anni middlesborough, 350 round trip.
I spent months looking for an Eddie, worst trip was 8 hour round trip to Norwich, to find what can only be described as a dog at a Seat maindealer. Smelt of wet dog aswell, still full of dog hair!!! Eventually found my ed30 in barnsley, 70 mile round trip, just next door to a family relative.
The drive home is the best bit, further away the better :driver: :driver:
-
The worry is something going wrong. How the hell would you get it back to the dealer if say 100 miles away, the AA would only take you so far. You would have to pay for a toe which wouldn't be cheap. I've had cars go on the way home from the purchase, a Vauxhall Astra snapped its crank shaft 20 minutes after the purchase mechanic said the odds of that going where crazy, a new engine was required. Bad luck.....yeah.....but I've never recovered from the horror, this was a private sale mind.
-
I travelled from London to Hereford - twice - to get my car, after several 100 mile round trips to look at others. A main dealer's warranty is valid nationwide, and the specialist I bought from offered a national RAC warranty.
-
I went from Manchester to Ireland, met him first time in Dublin to check all was okay, then flew to Shannon as he lived in Ennis, best car I've bought so far.
-
95 miles each way to/from Kent. Was worth it :happy2:
-
If it VW main dealer then the warranty nationwide, small independent slightly different as you have to give them the opportunity to fix any issues.
