After getting a bollocking off wigit (only kidding Andy  ) for not mentioning that I'd changed cars, I thought I'd better do something about it. As I've been a fairly long term mk5'er I'll make my apologies now for posting this in the mk5 forum but I'll double it up on the other side too. The reason it's in here is that now everyone can see why I've been a bit missing in action lately.
The mk5 was needing a bit of work doing, aircon was a bit hit and miss, the brakes needed changing and I wanted to re remap the thing as I'd got bored of the one I had (my own fault as I'd asked for a discreet map as the one I had on my previous car was a bit too full on in the damp resulting in masses of wheelspin). My wife wanted a Scirocco, but after asking wigit and Turbo Trev their opinions on the matter a while ago they said stick with a Golf (cheers for the input guys :happy2: ). So I went for a blank canvas, negotiated with a few dealers around the country who had base spec GTI demos and came back with this one.
I didn't bother putting a thread on the forum first of all as I was waiting to do a few mods to make the thing appear slightly more interesting than standard, however the eagle eyed wigit spotted the sig change in another thread so I rushed out and stuck the BBSs off my mk5 onto the new car and whizzed off a couple of photos whilst waiting for my Ibiza to dry after its bathtime!
So ladies and gentlemen my new-ish mk6:

So, I've made my excuses, now before Steve bins the thread as being in the wrong forum, whaddya think? :pomppomp:
-
I liiiiiiiiiiike :congrats:
-
very nice
-
it's not the other side you've gone to, it's "the dark side" :signLOL:
Very nice ride, good luch with it :happy2:

-
very nice :jumpmove:
-
silver really suits mk6 :happy2:
-
nice mate, really like the look of that. I really really cant help but saying that i dont this the pescaras suit that much at all.
i reckon the mozas with the black inserts looks the dogs danglies on the mk6 gti though.
But, nice mate, your a lucky guy!
-
Looks lovely matey, a gentle poke with the lowering stick wouldn't go a miss :happy2:
-

I thought that but from the side pic, I think it does suit it.
-
looks good beat witha lowering stick though, did it orig come with 17's?
-
Very nice :happy2:

Totally agree with this. The black monzas look superb. Do like the new MK6 though, lovely looking car!
-
looking good!! :happy2:
-
Looks great, although the alloys look tiny now.
-
looking smart :happy2:
-
Cheers for the comments guys.
To answer a few questions in no particular order:
Lowering, maybe, but not just yet. Might go for a gentle drop sometime in the future.
The wheels, well I wasn't too sure whether they'd suit the car before I put them on. They do look smaller on the mk6 than they did on the mk5 and the rear arches of the mk6 must be wider than the old car too as they sat pretty flush on the mk5 but sit in slightly on the newer car. They look better in the flesh than in the pictures but I may well change them in the future for some Monzas. Mostly because Monzas are easier to clean! At least with some different wheels to standard the car attracts a bit of attention and people don't immediately think it's a company car.
Yes, it did come with 17s. I wanted a pretty standard car so that I could upgrade bits over time as finances allow. I would have happily got one with 18'' Shadows and sold on the BBS but got the best deal on this one.
:happy2:
-
Nice one Andy, I hope you have years of fun in it!
I spotted the sig change and assumed I missed the thread!
-
Cheers Tom, I hope it does keep me entertained as I'll be paying for the bugger for years!
-
revo map these straight to 275hp
Lovely car, love the more aggressive front end of the new golf.
-
Yep, I've seen the printouts of Gossa's on REVO's site. Pretty impressive for a K03. :pomppomp:
I'm hoping to get mine done and on the rollers in November  Hopefully we'll see how the figures compare on a different car and set of rollers. Dyno lottery time!
-
Time for a bit of an update I guess, the wheels have now gone from the VZ033s to Black Detroits for the winter at least (not sure whether to keep the BBSs or not as they looked perfect on the mk5 but not so sure about on the mk6).
Oh, and the car made 260bhp on the rollers at TSR last month with the Revo stg1, 299lb ft of torque.

As ive said on another Forum cloud....... Fantastic mate.Black Huffs suit the 6 better then the VZ's.
-
spring drop and that wil look the dogs danglies. huffs look so much better witht he silver :happy2:
-
Get that car out of this forum............... :signLOL:
I so wish i could afford one, were all jelous. Defo on doing a subtle drop, will make it look so much better.
Sweet ride. :happy2:
-
We have the same wheel combination! :drinking:
-
Thanks for the comments guys. Definately agree with it looks like it needs a drop now, maybe some Eibach springs next year(?).
And Greenouse, I think I'll follow the lead you did with your Black Detroits and add some spacers, the width and offset difference from the BBSs makes it look a bit narrow now. Another job for the new year.....
-

Yep couldn't agree more, the spacers make the whole car look far more puposefull! :happy2:
-
And now for yet another set of alloys!
Believe it or not this is now the fifth set I've had for this car and I've only had it since September (this figure includes the set of Monzas it came with and some Monza IIs I bought and never fitted!)
Anyway, here's a set of genuine Scirocco Interlagos I picked up brand new, pic taken from the same angle as the last couple to show the differences in styles off:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fg26%2FAndy_vRS%2FSTA42153.jpg&hash=22af9ae1ff7f9d67dd486b2ab11017efa244d4e3)
8 inch wide with 41mm offset means no spacers required!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fg26%2FAndy_vRS%2FSTA42152.jpg&hash=7d3d5463615488495ec7d52635e867acb418bff0)
-
Lovely wheels Andy, but it still needs a beating with the lowering stick
-
Scirocco Interlagos- class looking.really makes it look special.
but the black detroits ar real GGRRRRRRRRRRRR
me likey them the best!
but the lastpics would still turn my head as the care went past me!
is it me or are we just like the girls with their shoes?? :ashamed:
...do i care..... nope!!

-
Can't argue with any of your choices so far fella! :congrats:
-
I preferred the Detriots. :happy2:
-
Thanks for the comments!
The interlagos look better in the flesh as they really fill the arches and have a muscular look when viewed in 3D, they look much more butch on a Golf than on a Scirocco due to filling the arches better. Give the GTI a bit of a dinky toy look.
I really like the Black Detroits too, but the Interlagos came up at a really good price so it had to be done! I've got the choice of which to use now depending on mood. :pomppomp:
-
Haha love that - oh I'll just both sets!
You know we need more pics of both sets tho don't cha!
Moar !!

There's a local (to me) VAG meet on Sunday so hope to get some proper shots of the car then. The ones in this thread were just taken quickly as I feel a bit of a tit photographing my car!!! The weather has been pants this week so the car's been tucked up in bed all week. Will make an effort at the weekend!!!

As the Golf needed a good wash and polish after sitting in a Gatwick car park for a couple of weeks followed by an early morning thrash back to Devon, I thought I'd take some photos of the results and to show the recently fitted LED tail lights as supplied by stokeballoon and SteveP (and thanks for fitting them and coding the ECU Dave :happy2:  ).

What? No pics of them lit up? Do they dance?
-
I'll get some of them lit up when it gets a bit gloomier. Despite it not looking so, it was actually very bright when I took the photos and it was hard to see the lights lit.
No they don't dance, just the front Xenons when fitted.
Well, my rear fog light does a dance of it's own, but that's another story!

Looking very nice ( I know your twin brother on the mk6 forum   )
p.s. I like the detroits by the way..... first time I've seen your car with those on. I wouldn't mind a set of those if I can pick some up for at reasonable price.
-
I get around a bit. Used to have the same user name over there but lost my log in details some years ago so re-registered under a completely different handle.
My Detroits are in the for sale section but the price isn't pretty reasonable
Funny enough I've recently been half thinking about getting them re-finished like Monza Shadows and selling my original almost new Monza 17s instead. That way the Detroits can go with the car when I eventually sell it and I can have some space back in my garage which is bursting at the seams.

Owl yes.... seen your wheels for sale. I would buy them if I had the spare cash and hadn't just forked out on the interlagos wheels. I can't even trade you my interlagos for your detroits as you've got those bloody wheels as well  I'll just have to wait until your desperate and make you a ridiculas offer then
In all fairness I've had the interlagos on mine for a few weeks now and they really have grown on me. I'm still tempted to get them re-finished in a anthracite grey colour. Not sure if it would be a waste of money though?
-
I wouldn't object to another set of Interlagos!
I'm not sure about how they'd look in anthracite either. As you've got a white car it could well work, nice contrast and all that. I've seen a couple of sets done in black and a set done in mid-grey.

Yeh its probably a waste of money getting them re-finished in a different colour tbo. I shall put the money then towards the "BeezerDiesel Detriot Fund"

 LOL
Here's a white one on black Detroits:

BeezerDiesel, damm I really like the look of these on a white car.... Thanks for posting those, but now look what you've done, I'm seriously tempted to sell my interlagos and put some detroits on
Anyone for swapsies.....?

Hello. I can't figure out how to PM you on this forum. Are these 18" detroits for sale?
-
Hello Tony, yes they were up for sale but they're now sitting on this car: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,18279.0.html
Lovely wheels.

Damn! I'm in California and I can't locate a set of these wheels anywhere. Do you know of a place? Thanks!
-
The Black Detroit/Huffs are a dealer option part from European dealers.
Probably cost big bucks to buy and ship out to the US. It would be far easier to get standard alloys powdercoated black.

Your old wheels certainly look good on the red GTI

They look perfect on the red ED30, but also look good on a red mk6 (sorry but I built up a bit of a gallery of black Huffs on mk6s!)

Here's the latest set of wheels to adorn the GTI, 19'' BBS CKs (8x19, ET44)

Apologies for the small size of the pics, I can't seem to get them any bigger without them getting pixelated.
And my humblest thanks to Jonathan for taking the photos and helping me with the fitting and letting me make use of his warm workshop. :happy2:
