Title: New Matt Black Emblems and Debadged
Post by: irish_ram on February 01, 2014, 04:25:19 pm
Well received my rear and front Matt Black Emblems this week and finally got round to fitting them today. Also decided to do a De-badge while as was looking at doing it and once I put the new Emblems on the Silver badges did not look right anymore so got rid.

For anyone else looking at doing it here is my 2p's worth if it helps:

Front Emblem - Eurowagons on Ebay for £19.99 and delivered with 2 days
DIY - Simple put a bit of pressure on the badge and twist anti-clockwise(be careful as can break the clips if force too much). Then wiggle and pull until all clips out. I found that if you can initially loosen one clip the emblem comes out enough for you to be able to use your finger or a tool to gently pries the other clips off. Then it is as simple as putting the new Enblem at the correct angle and twist to the right so it clicks in.

Rear Emblem - Got from brookesb32(Top notch work  :happy2: ) for £54 and next day delivery
DIY
1. Unscrew the 2 screws on the handles on the inside boot hatch
2. Then using your hands(I recommend gloves or a towel to cover them) slowly pull away the hatch cover until the clips click out. They are very stubborn and took me a good 10mins to pries them all off.
3. Now unscrew all the torq screws on the back of the Boots handle. There is one tricky on which I managed with a torq screw driver to loosen and then did the rest with my hands as it can be tricky. You can undo the wiper mechanism to get at this screw but seemed a bit overkill to get to this last screw. Then twist and the Handle will drop out. Unclip the cable on the handle lastly.
4. Clip the cable into the new Handle and insert into the slot and then put 3 screws back in.
5. I do not know how these handles work but I tested mine worked before putting the Hatch inside back on.
6. Lastly put the hatch inside back on which was trickier than removing but took me about 10 mins.

De-Badge - Cost nothing apart form the few quid for Dental Floss and cleaning products if not already got them in household
DIY -
1. Using a hairdryer heat the Letter/Numbers for about 20 seconds
2. Using some Dental Floss slowly work it in behind each letter/number and it should slowly come off. Repeat on other letters/numbers
3. Heat up for about 20 seconds any excess glue stuff left on the car an then peel off with fingers.
4. Then using your cleaning product(I used normal kitchen surface cleaner and dettol wipes) clean the area thoroughly to remove any leftover glue. You may have to do this a few times until glue is gone and ghosting also.

Thanks again to brookesb32 for the rear emblem.

Would like peoples opinions even if it is not to your liking

Liking the front but the rear maybe needs some red behind the badge IMO

Cheers guys,

I definitely love the front especially as it was so easy to replace.

I also am glad I de-badged but the more I look at the rear I can see what you mean.

The front has enough black elsewhere and the 3D look to blend in nicely but the back one does look like it may need something like red in between the black VW.

Anyone any good with photo shop or something that would not mind changing the black to red in between the VW to see what it would look like?

Looks good mate, got any pics of the front from further away? I like the gt grills but you don't often see them in black on a red car.

I have not at the moment. I will take some for you tomorrow and post up.

I was not aware my front gt sport grill was any different to the standard one or is it you have not seen them on a red car. If so what have you seen on a red for the grill?

£54 for a rear badge, I swear people are losing their minds. I could understand it it made it look a lot better, but that rear badge makes it look awful

Save money like that and get something decent like R32 cherry lights.

Each to their own taste mate. £54 is a good price for the whole boot handle as I do not think you would get it much cheaper anywhere else.

And for my personal preference I like it and feel it improves the car which is all that matter  :happy2:

And even if I was not a fan I do not think anyone on this forum can say they have never bought anything that the minute they stuck it on the car they went I am  :stupid:  :happy2:

Thanks for the feedback though

Usually (I think) there colour coded to the car so the bit with the plate on is the same colour as the car.

Just had a scan on Auto Trader and a lot of them are the same colour of the car so your right. But the few red ones on there were all black. I like colour coding but it does look much better all black as there was one on there red with the plate bit red and did not look nice

I'm undecided. Whilst I like the black front badge, personally black looks better on darker cars and chrome on coloured. The rear badge, again not sure if I like it but then again I don't like a lot of things.

Is there a need for insults mate. I asked opinions on the look to get other view, not to be insulted. Most have replied with their views whether bad or good and some have actually given advice on what to do to maybe make it look better which is probably the whole point I posted this topic.

If all you can do is reply with stupid comments then what is the point in your posts  :stupid:

GTI-ROSS, In defence of the OP - and I can say this as I created his handle - you seem not to appreciate how much things cost.

The price for his complete handle included delivery as well as the vinyl wrap and time it took me to wrap the standard silver badge. 3D handles  still sell for about £45 on their own, so it is not much extra I charge for the wrapping and delivery, which Irish-ram and lots of other members would agree with!

He has created a genuine thread to help people, so don't criticise. If you don't like the look then each to their own, but he does.

Irish-Ram

I used to own a TR and have created a red backed version for someone in the past, like below, so if you would like a bit if red vinyl to cut and stick between the badge then I may have a bit left you are welcome to have - but if you like the black on black then keep it - recommend washing the car though

Cheers brookesb32 and I love the badge and well worth the price but then some people think you can things for nothing nowadays.

The car definitely looks apart from in the last photo but that wash only a machine wash so very basic.

If you have the red vinyl going then I may take it. I am going to use my basic photo shop skills and put the pic of your red badge on my car and see what it looks like and will then let me know.

Thanks again for the badge and great service just like everyone else said and recommended  :happy2:

@brookesb32 I can't appreciate how much things cost? I did the same mod for my MK5, (not black on Black) and cost me about £22 in total. £18 for the 3D badge (from a car breakers near me) they have tons in stock, and it didnt matter about it being used and it was getting wrapped anyways. Then just £4 on vinyl, 2 different colors.

Im not saying the work involved isnt tricky, as i know from experience wrapping can be fiddly and time consuming. The main point is that you should take time and research before spending £54 on mod that most people think looks pretty bad. But as everyone say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

And @ IrishMan - I hardly insulted you, dont get so upset its only banter. #Captain Butt Hurt  :drinking:

Well GTI-Ross if you can get a complete handle (not just the badge) for £18 then well done, but most scrap yards know their value and would charge at least £30-40 for a handle, and on eBay most are at £45 upwards.

I'm not a fan of black myself but it doesn't stop me making them for people as I can see how they would like them and therefore if they are happy then all is well  :happy2:

People pay more money than others for things. As you said you went to a scrap yard and also did the job yourself so would be cheaper.

I did not do any leg work and paid for the service which is going to be slightly dearer but as most will find and agree on here £54 is a good price for getting a whole new boot handle fully customized to what they want and delivered with a couple of days at most. And whether it is deemed ugly or not does not effect the price. I could have asked brookesb32 to wrap it multi coloured in yellow, green and pink which would be awful but would not affect price most likely.

And I have been on several forums and have had banter back and forward which is fine. What you are posting ain't banter mate and does not even look like you think bout what you are posting and to back that up as a previous poster said you were not even bothered to get my name right so shows how much thought you are putting into your posts.

Thanks for your initial feedback but I suggest you go post on someone else's topic now with you valuable feedback and getting their name wrong  :notworthy:

Red car, grey wheels, black badges....that sounds mint   :P

and also, I was saying genuine Monza are quite heavy to start with, the reps are even heavier. 0-60 will suffer and also MPG over the year.
