Hi all. I currently have a mk4 R 32 that lives in the garage and a mk5 gti dsg that I use for every day.

I love both cars and ended up like this as I sold my diesel Vrs as my commute dropped from 90 miles a day to 18 total and in 2 months it drops again to 10 daily. Then I got sick and tired of my garaged car a mk1 golf gti supercharged as I did not take it out in the wet and then it was so hot it was a pain without aircon. So that went for the R32.
I am toying with the idea of selling both even though I have only had them 6 months and getting one car. Am tempted by either a mk5 R32 or something else. Maybe an Audi S4. Or should I stick as I am. With a best of both worlds job. If I get what I have in mind. I will still pay the same in tax as it costs more and probable the same in insurance and fuel once it's all said and done. But also I won't loose as much money if I sell up with both cars as having one. If I did sell I though a realistic price would be £6000-£6500 for the R and maybe £7000 for the gti. So say £13000 to spend.
What's your thoughts guys.

Depends on alot of things :innocent:
If it was me i would only have one car as the car in the garage is such a waste , whatever it is . If its appreciating in value then that would be the only thing for me to keep it . Both cars are similar in performance and the GTI is more economical and newer (not by much) but is alot more modern than a MK4
With only £13k you are not going to get much , an S4 is just an A4 with a big engine . You have mentioned depreciation and that will be double with two cars .
I would get rid of both an buy the very best Edition 30 you can find and keep any cash left over for some mods , especially if your mileage is not going to be much :innocent:
But then i am biased :innocent:

I would deffo get rid of both and start again with one car!
-
Ed30/pirelli all day long
-
Yep have to agree with others in that you're better off with an Edition30! :happy2:
-
You'd be better off with a Golf R or an Audi S3 to be honest.
Much more capable.
-
Am very tempted to be honest now that I do little work miles can have what I want. For £13 k I could get either a mk6 gti. Mk5 r32. I know the ed 30 hold their money but I am not swapping these two for one of them. Going to have to drive an s4 first I think. The 4.2 V8 may make the difference.
-
See, I'd love to have a mkv gti as a daily and a mk4 r32 sitting in the garage as a weekend toy...
-
That's as it is at the moment. I use both and love both. The R32 does not sit in the garage all the time. Sometimes I swap them for a week and put the gti in the garage. I am not going through all the hassle of selling to get an ed30 or Pirelli for that much cash as I don't see the point. Not even sure of its worth it all for a mk5 R. Think if I drive a capable S4 for the cash and I really love it I could be tempted though. Just airing my thoughts as still not decided. For the money there are some very nice looking S4's about

S5?

S3 and map it with hardware to 340 bhp +
-
Sell the r32 and spend the cash on the gti!! Or if it was me I'd keep the gti and buy a mk2 gti with the r32 cash lol

Had a look at S5's on net. Very nice but for that cash they are pushing 90k. I used to have a mk2 gti before then a corrado etc. Problem is I don't use that sort of car in the wet so it tends to end up sitting in the garage hence the R32. If I sell these it will be for a big engined every day jobby

Why are you not considering an S3.
That being said I hate "what car do i buy" threads because people never listen anyway
-
buy an edition 30/pirelli
-
buy an edition 30/pirelli
S3 is a better car in every way! :scared:
And vs ED30 or Pirelli price not really much in the cost... know if I was spending £12k where it'd go..
-
buy an edition 30/pirelli
yea what he said!!

With both the cars you have i think you will be disappointed with an S4 and the fuel cost isn't worth it either .
I am in a predicament that i have had my car for 3 years , i ought to sell it and upgrade it (Similar thinking to you , possibly) but i cannot find a car i would rather have for reasonable money , i would have a 5 door Golf R to replace my Ed30 but they are too far away and too much money generally . I don't like the S3 either , i keep trying to get my Mrs to sell her Mini Cooper and get a 1 series then i could get something a bit more 2 door ish
-
Not buying an S3 because i like a v6 or v8 idea like the R32. And no offence to anyone but I can't justify getting rid of the R to end up with a slightly newer gti with half leathers and nicer wheels. Not for the extra £5k

Two lovely motors there
For me the good weather is on it's way, enjoy them both, then make your mind up! :happy2:
-
There a a fair bit of advice to keep both. You are hitting the right plan there.

Rocco R? ; better brakes, suspension, interior than the Eddy.
S5 can be had for around £15k... personally, I'd love one with a nice exhaust  Buy (http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201402021501467/sort/default/usedcars/make/audi/postcode/sw193rq/maximum-mileage/up_to_60000_miles/page/1/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/model/s5/radius/1500?logcode=p) / Listen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07cnxTdNqxc&t=0m54s)

Well Im just in the process of trading my 58 plate 26k mile GTI in for an 09 32k mile MkV R32 because like you , I have a thing about large capacity multi cylinder engines and their soundtrack , but if I could , Id keep the GTI AND buy the R32 as well , so I would suggest just keeping what you have - the MkIV R32 is already a classic , just keep it and use the GTI as a daily , best of both worlds IMHO.
