So the other day i was at work and my car was parked at the side of my caravan in our yard. When some prick fell asleep at wheel of his car on the M23 and came
down this private road

into this barrier, into the car, the caravan

Now my car has been taken to apollo motorgroup in horsham, where it is been looked at and a estimation for repair has been sent to the pricks insurance company. I really do not want my car to be written off i've only owned it since November.
So i rang them today for some info and find out how much their estimation is what they sent to the pricks insurance company. Their cost for repair is going to be around £5.500....
so do you guys think they pay to get it repaired or write it off?
-
That looks terrible!!
I would say there is a good chance it will a write off due to the cost of repairs :sad1:
-
I'm no expert on these things at all but on a brief glance through the pics, I'd be very surprised if they don't write it off given the spread of panel and body damage? Could be wrong.
With anything valued under £15k, it doesn't seem to take too much to be written off in today's world.
Very unlucky as an experience though dude :sad1:
-
Yeah, I also think its likely to be written off due to extent of damage and cost of repairs :(
-
Personally think they'll write it off mate, what are the chances of that happening!? Lucky no one was in it or getting something out the boot when that came ploughing in.
-
Thanks guys
If it's wrote off you think i should buy it back off the insurance company?
-
Holy sh*t...thats crazy!!!!
:stupid:
-
That's unreal :scared: I would think that's finished mate
-
sh*t!!
They will probably write it off, but I wouldn't buy it back if they do. Cars with a cat against there name are a killer to pass on after.

Not much chance lol. The copper said he never had a crash there before and he been working that area for 25 year
And someone was in that caravan watching tv right at that window, he very lucky to be alive. If the barrier wasn't there to take most the impact the car would have went straight through caravan and him.
The driver who caused this was lucky too, he got out the car (green honda civic) with not a scratch on him.
Unreal
-
Man this is harsh! Feel sorry for you big time!
What speed was he doing?
Hope you get a good payout for your car as I don't think they will repair.
-
That sucks :( I can't believe a car did this!i was assuming it was a lorry!
-
A write off has to be 75% of the value of the car, so I'd say on that basis, it will be written off.
Buy it back off the insurance, get paid out for a new car and I'll buy the damaged car off you :)

Have no idea what speed he was doing, but for little car like his to do all that damage he must off been doing at least 90

Im thinking of buying it back. new wing mirror, door, sideskirt, rear bumper, side panel thingy, dint out the passenger side and resprayed she be good as new ha.
Even if i were to strip it and sell everything i think i could still make a profit. Its quite a high spec gti. Think the only extras it didn't come with from factory were
sunroof and xenon headlights, which i just bought for it a few days ago ;-(
-
That's what I wanted it for, the goodies lol I can put a nice interior in my jetta then haha
If it needs paint on both sides, you are still talking £800-1000 in paint to have it done properly.
-
Somebody has hit the side of mine too.....insurance estimates are around £2000 t. Repair it.I then went to my local painter who I have used in the passed And he's said a max of £500.... Just go's to show you the difference in costs for insurance.
-
I'm sure insurance companies just make up there own estimates. :stupid:
-
Now then, A little update.
Just got a email from the company who is dealing with the repairs and what not. They are writing the car off as a Cat D
I am not very happy about this and the fact that my insurance used a third party company to deal with repairs. Which will have bumped
the price of repair up quite a bit, But what is done ,is done.
They have sent a valuation of my car for £6760 which imho is quite good and nearly the amount i paid for it 3month ago.
I have told them i want my car back and i will repair it myself. So they said i can have it back and check for £5070
What you think?
-
I wouldn't bother tbh taking it back. Its going to cost you a huge amount to sort out. You may as well buy another which isn't cat registered. It will be easier to move on.
At the end of the day its only a car and there are 100's of them out there. Plus you got a good first offer. What year is it?
-
Its a 55 Plate
And i've just been for a couple of quotes for repair where i live one was around £1700 and thats with new door skin and new side panel. Huge difference to their final estimation of £6.2k
So i get my car back plus £5k, pay max £2k to get it repaired, then i have my car back like new and £3k in my pocket
-
That is a lot of car for £1700! If you kept it then decided it wasn't worth repairing you would easily make more as parts, then scrap it - or sell as track car as others have said
-
I'd buy that for £1700. :driver:
-
Yes mate absolutely take the £5k cheque and the car.
You can then either strip it yourself and make a lot of extra money or sell the car for another £2500 or £3k or so - It could be repaired to be honest.
-
Yea, that's easy worth it, get it repaired for 1k, 4k in the pocket.
Or I'll buy it for 2k, then use the 5k to get a minty Gti.
-
Defo have it back and 5k!!!!
And it's not difficult at all to sell on a cat d registered car, you just have to amend the price accordingly and any pics and documentation of the damage and the fix will set future buyers minds at rest.....
