I've fitted a hidden one before. Fits easily, just the wiring that is time consuming.

With no cutting of the lower valance ? If so what was the make of the towbar ? I want to have the original look when the tow bar is not attached

Right , i have got some pics of what our local Indespension fitter has sent me of what the towbar they can fit to an ED30 looks like . Now what do you think ? Will it devalue the car ? Looks ok to me but unsure about ruining the rear etc

It would be an absolute shame to chop into your rear valance, how often would you need the towbar? If irregularly can you not have a standard GTI valance with the centre cutout, they don't take a lot of effort to swap over?
Or even having a textured GTI one sprayed up so you can swap your original one come selling time.

Did I not see the other day you were selling up though?

It is sell or towbar !
The Car is fantastic but i use it very little too .
Now if i sell i will still need to put a towbar on the car that i get , so hence i am still .
I am tbh unsure what to do
The Towbar is instead of getting another car or van , which with the little i use the ED30 anyway it would be silly to carry on owning it .
I want to be able to earn a bit of cash too and with a more practical car 4x4 , Estate or similar would enable that to happen

I got a Tiguan for the wife, and being honest it is nice enough to appease me to sell my ED30 and have one car (for a bit).
Feels like a Golf inside, handles well and you can have your towbar.

A towbar on a car always makes buyers think 'engine stressed' and with a possible rear valance sprayed up to hide it for the new owner, I think that loses you your low mileage appeal.

I went for swan neck bar which fits below bumper with no bumper cut so no problem or expense when you sell car.

pm me your e-mail for pics

Only downside is reduced ground clearance i.e. tow bar to floor but only catches very slightly when 5 up with bikes on back over big speed humps

I've seen some horror shows in my time but those images of that towbar are vile beyond comprehension. You should sell rather than allow such a tragedy to be bestowed upon a good looking car.

I fitted a detachable flange (always make me laugh) from Witter to my Jetta, it also allows me to attach a bike rack to it too. Never had any issues with scraping fully loaded with people and luggage or towing (my car is sat on Bilstein B12)

Take a look http://www.witter-towbar.co.uk/golf-v-hatchback-2004-detachable-towbar.html

You get the best of both worlds by keeping ED30 and towing sometimes.

I am sure that that won't work on the ED30 as the lower valance on the ED30 is very different from all other MK5 Variants , but thankyou for being helpful

I have one of these westfalia bars on my 07 ed30. A lightly modified daily driver for me.

I regularly tow a lightweight racing dinghy. 200kg gross Max.
Great towbar, no issues.

BUT IT REALLY DOES LOOK THAT SH1TE!
Think hard before chopping the lower valance.

Wish I had gone for a swan neck!
Sadly the bar was fitted for me while I was working away for a couple of weeks...I swear that this was not what I discussed with the fitter!
