Hi all,
I am currently running festoon type canbus compatible led bulbs in my standard rear number plate light bulb holders.
I've been experiencing a bulb failure warning light on the dash increasingly, and wondered if any knows of either some genuine spec VAG items that work or excellent quality after market items?
Any suggestions or help much appreciated.
Thank you :happy2:

Hi Andy
Thanks, I have something very similar fitted at the moment which is causing me the issues I am currently experiencing.
I just thought someone else may be aware of some excellent quality units instead of after market bulbs.....

You can get led rear numberplate bulbs from the stealers. Quite pricey tbh. Hopefully someone will come along with the p/n as i'm insure...

That's odd because I'm running CW5 36mm LED festoons in mine and have no Canbus error issues at all. But then there's so many variants on eBay it's hard to know which bulb is decent. My biggest gripe however is that they tend to flicker and burn out quite quickly, I bought a set of 4x Fizzmo LEDs and 2 had flickered out within a month so I'm on my last 2 already! So I improvised by adding a small heatsink with thermal paste on top and its coping fine... for now. :scared:
The VW LED units are the best but as people say its expensive, I had them on my MK6 Golf before it got nicked. :sad1: Part number for that is 1K8 943 021B and looking at my old invoice it costed me £55.87 for the set. That's not including the Kufatec adapters to get rid of the Bulb out error with them, they're around £30 so you'll be looking at £80 for the official OEM route!

I've just tried fitting a set of festoon 6 smd xenon white 36mm bulbs. They don't work? Been messing about with them for a bit now and only come on one at a time if I leave one of the original vw bulbs in?? Any ideas?

I'm sure you've tried swapping the polarity - most LED's only work one way on double ended bulbs.......
Just a thought!

I keep advising it and no-one really listens! :ashamed:
The normal bulb (festoon type) can and generally will give you no end of problems.. I had some and they caused all kinds of weird electrical abnormalities.

I would avoid the MyLitCo ones as I had a few issues with those due to moisture ingress or faulty batches.. in the end bought another set (from the place above) and have been spot on.
At the end of the day, if you put LED ones in they are going to be bright, if you don't want bright number plate lights, don't put LED ones in - Leave the standard ones in to be honest!! You have other options as well such as tinting the unit with some film if you want to dim them down slightly.

Dunno if I tried that? Will give it a go when it stops raining...

The LED festoon bulbs I have will only work when correctly installed - they are sensitive to the polarity !

Refitted mine today and all was fine for about 10 seconds! Then went off again, I've given up on them.

Fitted my first pair of lights from MyLitCo, one flickered and the other didn't work.

Fitted the replacement set and neither worked so i gave up!
