Title: My Mk5 Jetta TDI
Post by: Sjw_Vw on February 11, 2014, 12:59:08 pm
Hi guys and girls! Thought it was about time i started a thread on my Jetta. It's a 2.0 Tdi sport 140 and i absolutely love it! I've had it for nearly 2 years, but only started modding it after about a year. It's lowered on JOM coilovers, black classix wheels, genuine GLI rear valance. On the 1st of March, I'm having a custom turbo back exhaust system fitted and then the wheels refurbed in a funky colour. Also, I'm having my engine plastics plasti dipped and going to try and get a leather interior, or Gti. Here's some pic's.

Went to Dubfreeze yesterday, good show. Stopped off for some pics afterwards in an industrial estate near me. The Jetta is abit dirty after being on the motorway for 2 hours, but thought I'd post it anyway.

I've only just got this grille, haha. I love how evil it looks! I'm getting the wheels refurbed in a different colour and hopefully as much as I possibly can over this year. Me and the girlfriend moved into our own place at the end of the year, so all my money is going on that. Apart from the exhaust system which I'm having fitted on the 1st of March

Cheznik - Thanks! It does look so moody - especially in the dark

3M gloss black wrap would match perfectly and about the same cost as plastidip!

I have ordered a couple of times from these guys.

Well...... Not been a good time for the Jetta the past few weeks :sad1:
Firstly I had to cancel my exhaust being done, as my girlfriend lost her job. Then a stupid old woman driver, in a 106, cut me up and I had to swerve into a big kerb. So I've badly scuffed my front left wheel all the way around and scuffed my splitter. So gutted! Just before show season aswell.
I'm going to book the wheels in for refurb in the next few weeks :happy2:

Can't wait to hear it and see it . Also, i've sold some of my detailing stuff, so i'll hopefully be booking my wheels in for refurb in a different colour, soon.

Well it turns out the calipers are the same size as the ones I already have and the discs were the completely wrong ones. So no new brakes :sad1:

Well.... It's MOT time for the Jetta today! Hopefully it'll  pass, as I had a pre - MOT on it last week and it needed a new CV boot and new front brake pads. Other than that, it didn't need anything else and everything was fine :happy2:

I'll post up later with the results

I've taken some of the stickers off my rear end, and someone has decided to steal my teddy and has pulled the cover off my GLI valance. Now it's missing :sad1:. On the other hand -  It gave me an idea to fill it...... But that's under wraps until next year

I spent just over £1000 in a few weeks on getting the wheels done, full front and rear end respray, new JOM coilovers, egr delete and a few other things. Then the turbo, dual mass flywheels and clutch decided to go. So I had to sell it :sad1:

You said the Octavia brakes wouldn't fit?? You are correct the calipers are the same, you just need a pair of mk5 GTi/ octavia Vrs / mk2 Leon cupra r carriers, then new 312mm discs and upgraded pads. (Did the same with mine!)

So..... Finally something new! I've managed to pick up the wheels i've wanted for a while! They're matt black at the moment, but will be going gloss black next year. I had to get these wheels after seeing this picture

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fab131%2FSJW_20%2FIMG_20140828_230816.jpg&hash=9ffce2008d15646dd1110898bf6a053fe7140f07)

Main reason nothing has happened is beacuse i've been saving to get my car sorted. Need a new rocker cover and getting an EGR delete fitted.

I'd prefer the Hella xenon-look headlights with OSRAM Cool Blue Hyper 5000k bulbs.

Jaffa - Thanks man. I know it is! I'll be ordering GLI sideskirts in the next few months and try and find an Ed30 front splitter. Yeah I'm on the lookout for some cheap GTI lights, but also saving for some replica OEM projector lights :).

Shoduchi - That's what I'll hopefully be getting :).

Chris-182 - Thanks alot! I really can't wait, haha.

Not so much good new at this moment in time..... My family business has closed down, so I've had to sell my Scirocco wheels :sad1:. Hopefully I'll find a new job quickly and that has overtime, so i can begin the modding again.

Are you looking to get another set of Scirocco wheels or something different?

Nodding will get tiring and modding is expensive  :signLOL:

Looks really nice, kinda wish I'd bought a Jetta
I prefer the Jetta grilles when the badge is chrome, think it looks a bit odd with the black badge in the middle of all that shininess.
But I vote for a GT Sport grille on this, but then I'm biased. :drinking:

I might be one of the few people that don't like the Classixs wheels... The main reason why I ordered the R-Line kit, which was a very good decision IMO taking in account the cost of the kit and the parts included.

The world would be very boring if we all liked the same stuff.

I like your Jetta with the wheels painted like that.

it seems to look higher as well with the different colour?

So I decided to dedicate the weekend just gone to cleaning, sealing, sanding and spraying pretty much anything that could be done underneath my Jetta. I also greased anything up that needed greasing and oiling.

I also have refurbed my wheels myself for the total cost of £12! Plus that includes changing my chrome grill to black and all the under car spraying. It really does look do much better and cleaner!  Plus a lot meaner! Oh I've also lowered it an inch at the front. Looks higher on my phone camera, but I'll post pictures off my proper camera on the next few days.
I'll be on the Pure Vag stand and All Types this weekend and hopefully in the Show & Shine at the Unphased show in a few weeks.

Finished my grills off today. It's mad how such a tiny bit of chrome makes such a difference! Looks so mean. Also taken my wheels off again to re - clean ready for All Types Vw show. Some bad news for me and the Jetta the other day.... I think the head gasket is on it's way out. Will be 100% certain when I get it MOT'D on the 5th of June. So gutted if it is! Plus I've had to out it back to the height it was because it developed an unusual noise

Uh oh, did you find out at the MOT?
Check your drive shafts, it could have been to low and may need the notch.

No -It's been leaking fluid for a while and we couldn't find a leak. I've changed the timing belt and water pump, EGR delete and EGR cooler delete to see if was anything to do with them - But still leaking :(. Going to try Steel Seal and see if it'll last till Christmas, as that's when I get my bonus and will be able to get it done.

On a plus note..... The Jetta passed  it's MOT with flying colours :).

Also - I've lowered it a little more than what it was when I highers it, and no noise has appeared :)

Got myself some genuine GTI headlights off a guy I know. Really happy with how much meaner the front end looks. Also - It's  even more stealth . Fitted them myself too, which was quite easy and took about 90 minutes in total.

Hope you don't put that steel seal rubbish in... will do infinetly more harm than good.
If it is the headgasket have it replaced properly.  If it's the porous head problem then you're screwed either way lol

Post by: Sjw_Vw on July 27, 2015, 01:28:29 pm
What exactly is the porous head problem? I am planning on having it replaced properly, but don't have the spare money until Christmas when I get my bonus. It was just a stop gap to stop it from losing stupid amounts of coolant that it is :(
Title: Re: My Mk5 Jetta TDI
Post by: xjay1337 on July 27, 2015, 02:01:02 pm
Do some research, very well discussed issue.
cylinder liners become porous water from the cooling jackets seems into the cylinder and is burnt off.

It could very well be a headgasket but could also be that.
Who knows
Potato.

So the Jetta is DEAD! started to cost more and more to fix from the start of this year and now it's finally died! Porous head, whining diff in the gearbox and the oil pump exploded the other day which had caused the engine to blow. It's been a great few years, but I'm going to move away from VW for a few years due to the fact that every VW I've owned over the years has done nothing but let me down, cost a fortune to fix and then broke. Maybe in a few years I'll come back to them, but for now I'm getting a cheap run-a - round to get me to work and back.

Thanks for all the kind and positive comments on my posts over the years.

Will still be going VW shows that I go to, just to admire this time.

So the Jetta has gone into storage until December. It's getting a reconditioned turbo (any recommended companies?), new oil cooler & new oil sensor. Then (I'm really hoping so) I hope I'll have no more problems for a long while, as this year has completely killed me!

Will post more updates as and when they come along :)

Not long until I get my Christmas bonus off work! Then I should (hopefully) be able to book it in for repair. I honestly can't wait!

Maxitrol - Thanks. I did get some GTI headlights, but had to sell them and put the money towards getting the Jetta fixed :(.

I'm genuinely amazed I haven't seen this thread before! Your car is really epic, and I can't get over how good the classix look in gloss black, kind of regret selling mine off now!!!

@bluebert92 - Thank you so much! Such kind words . Yeah that's why I haven't changed my wheels tbh! They look so good and people are always commenting on them. They're matt black now & look just as good.

I'm definitely going to have a think about getting some back and getting them sprayed up maybe for a winter alloy instead of my monzas, I'm genuinely gob smacked how good they look over the standard classix! I may well do them in gloss Black and then I could always plastidip them matte if I needed to change :)

@bluebert92 - Yeah I was when I had them done. I'm thinking of a colour change, but honestly don't know if I want to :/

Oh I wouldn't change them! It suits your car to a tee mate, I for one vote you keep them that colour :driver:

Quick update - The Jetta was bought home last night ready to be fixed by my mechanic over the next 2 weeks.

Getting my turbo from Midlands Turbo. Don't know whether I'm getting mine repaired or a new unit as of yet until I found out why it failed.

So my turbo is now at Midlands Turbo being repaired. Turns our it died because of 'overspeed'. My mechanic will be checking my intercooler, all boost pipes & boost control valve (I think that's what it's called).  Then it should be back on my Jetta on Wednesday along with all the other parts it needs.

I could potentially have it back and be driving it by Wednesday night! So unbelievably excited! I'll post as & when I get it back

A word of warning, I would be fitting a new oil feed pipe when you rebuild it as its common for the existing oil feed pipe to be choked internally (on the bend) causing reduced flow and premiture failure of the replacement turbo.

@doylebros - Thanks, I'll let my mechanic know :)

@maxitrol - Thanks so much for the kind offer! I'll be getting them put on the same day and IF I need them tbh. Just because I want it back so bad! Haha.

I saw this in Huddersfield today, Did you end up selling this considering it has been a year since the last update? Looked well either way
