Hi guys,
Ive recently put my car through an MOT and one of the advisories was for me to change the discs and pads. I have a standard MK5 GTI brakes and I'm not looking to upgrade any time soon. With that in mind other than standard OEM discs and pads, do you have any recommendations?
I was thinking maybe standard discs with performance pads?
Thanks in advance!
-
Standard discs with performance pads would be your best bet for performance vs cost :happy2:
-
Any particular performance pads?
-
DS2500's seem to get the vote on most fast road applications with a standard setup.
I am still surprised at how poor my standard brakes are for a hot hatch. The wifes clio 197 has Brembos as standard!
-
I've recent got our Golf and it's fitted with these DS2500 and it stops very well indeed. I just thought they were standard until I looked harder
-
Another good thing to do is fit uprated brake fluid, ATE Superblue for example is not stupidly expensive and works well. In conjunction with better pads it would make braking a much more pleasant experience.
-
Does just changing the pads to some uprated ones really make a noticeable differents?
-
anyone know the best (and by best I mean cheapest :P ) to get the afor mentioned pads???
-
I think they're on the bay for £25 each.
-
Cheapest i can find for the front set is £140 ish. Anyone got any better links?

Anyone know the best place to get the DS2500's? Are they worth the extra $$$ in a stock set up with O.E discs?
-
They are indeed. Might be worth dropping daveB a message about discs.

Is this a reccomended discs/pads combo ? Need some at some stage and some rears , can you ring Opie oils and get the same deal ?
-
They will be great disc and pads for normal usage.
-
Think ill go with the Brembo combination.
Are the DS2500's worth the extra money over the Brembo? my car is standard and I'm not planning to upgrade the performance any time soon as I'm 21 and it'll hike the insurance up!

Does anyone know another discount code for OPIE OILS as WAREHOUSE is expired
