Had cv boot done today and was charged for wheel re alignment at £25 so total was £115.
This the norm or worth questioning?
-
Probably charged you an hours labour (around £60.. part is about £20... plus tracking..) and the VAT so it's not exactly a bargain but it's not exactly a rip off.
-
I changed the whole drivers side drive shaft, got it from a place in Birmingham.... JR CVJOINTS, £45 including next day delivery with a 2 year warranty. cheap as chips and only took about 45 mins to do.
-
Just had mine done at a garage for £40 :surprised:
-
£40 is not a bad price for the boot, I changed just the boot on passenger side over a year ago and it took longer to do than changing the whole shaft.
-
Labour and part ok with looking at £70 ish, It's the £25 wheel alignment I'm confused about, is it needed after fitting drivers side cv boot?
-
I had the boots on both sides done at about £80 each all in. No alignment was needed.
-
Depends how much knowledge the mechanic had who completed the repair eg - If you don't mark the guide joint 1K0 407 365 C when removing the shaft you'll have to redo the tracking! :happy2:

I didn't mark anything on both sides and my tracking is fine

You should have your tracking done to be honest after doing anything suspension related.

You can remove the shaft without altering and suspension / alignment if you know what your doing

I know :happy2: Done it loads of times on the TDI when we were chopping and changes clutches. I'd still do it for the sake of the £15-20 quid that it costs vs losing you a few thousand miles of tyre life! I get mine tracked every 6-8 weeks. It's obviously much more likely to change with air ride but still - I'd have it done every 3-4 months before I had air. Nothing more annoying to me than a car that doesn't track straight.
Besides most garages who just bash jobs out as quick as, they're less likely to be careful.

Ive no experience of airride but every 2 months seems a bit ocd lol.
Although when ever i adjust my coilovers i always do the tracking / camber on my car and its always out so surely when you drive at different heights it affects the track no? Never had airride so have no idea lol
-
I don't do it out of joy trust me!
I get it done free every couple of times so that helps but at the end of the day I get full 4 wheel laser alignment for £15 (when I have to pay) and I'd rather pay that £15 every 2 months or so and help prolong my tyre life and driving enjoyment :)
You get it tracked at drive height (so the height you normally drive at) as you raise the car it does change the alignment slightly, if you raise the car while driving at speed you can feel the car change it's pitch and angle (even though my preset heights are all equal within about 0.2 inches all around, due to camber and slight toe changing.
Each time you raise/lower the car the bushes all jiggle about slightly.. after all it's not designed for that.
I have TT console bushes which does help.. but eventually I am planning on fully polybushing the whole car with superpro ball joints, poly bushes on both front and rear wishbones/suspension arms and rear axle bush.
Should be more resistant then

sh*t...i just paid 130 to change the left front cv cover.... :fighting:
