Hi Guys,
I'm a Bit of a detailing nut and I am after a high quality wax. I will be regularly topping it up so longevity is not a massive issue but obviously looking for a few months of protection between coats.
I've been using Zymol but am wanting something more new school with a nice wet look and super beading and flake pop! - Not asking much here!
What can people recommend - Auto Finesse, Kleen freaks, Swissvax seem to be the top players at the mo?
Anyone physically compared these against one another or got any other suggestions?

What colour is the car? Whats your budget?

Ask yourself what you want from a wax.
If you want a good wax that is easy to use and will outlast most things, look at collinite 476s or FK1000p bilt hamber finis wax, etc. All available under £20 for large containers.
If you want to spend much, much more than that, then be aware that a more expensive wax does not automatically mean it's a better wax.. Autofinesse are just products rebottled and sold on at a 70% markup on their actual price, I've used Temptation, Passion and Soul, were all horrible. Incredibly hard to use - Spirit was quite nice and smells lovely but again you're getting up to £80 there and it's just a lot for what is basically a brand.
Crystal Rock is great a friend of mine really rates it. I've never used it personally but it smells amazing and seems easy to apply and remove and gives good protection. But is it's protection better than Collinite for example or worth the extra to a non-professional, home user?
Probably not.
Up to you at end of day. If you got £1800 you can buy a never ending tub of Zaino wax.
-
Definitive wax show edition would be my recommendation

-
ag hd wax for me,. best bang for buck
-
I'm not sure if its a "premium" wax, but i use Chemical Guys Butter Wet Wax.
Last time i used it was in conjunction with Poorboys Black hole and Chemical Guys Wet Mirror finish and it gave the car a real nice. It beaded nice too :)
-
Swissvax (onyx) or (best of show) for me I put a good sealant on first
-
Really didn't rate the onyx.
Tried it on my anni. Did side by side with ag hd, which out lasted and beaded better. Didn't Snell as good tho.
-
Swissvax shield is an excellent all rounder with great durability and very very useable. If I could justify the money, I'd get a pot.
I also really like dodo juice supernatural hybrid. Great looks and nice to apply

I like the sound of this stuff too but the price made me think twice! Its the one with ptfe in isn 't it?
What colour is the car? Whats your budget?
Id say Im looking at around a £100 give or take £25. Its grey...
Thanks in advance!
-
If you check out some places they have sample pots so reduce the cost (clean your car.com) :happy2:
-
I would go for a sealant on Grey, Zaino is great stuff and good value for money :happy2:

For that pricepoint, Swissvax shield is a nice wax,
Zymol Glasur gets good reviews, although I personally didn't like it.
Bouncers Vanilla Ice,
Britemax Vantage,
Auto finesse desire,
Raceglaze 55
Then theres the Definitve waxes, show edition, durus, ubique and Carrera are a few of my favourites, I've owned all of the above and more, but still prefer the Definitive waxes :happy2:
You could spend a little bit more and get a 100ml Mitchell and King wax specifically created for VW Golfs :popcornsoda:

is the car a show car? if not i wouldnt waste £100 on a wax, not for a daily driver esp....
-
A £100 pot of wax only works out at around £3 to put a coat on a car, so isn't much. I've probably got around £3k worth of wax sitting there for my daily driver!!!
-
My argument is are you going to see the difference.
I've tried really expensive waxes. Just don't see the hype.
-
I've used autofinnesse illusion to good effect, can definitely see the difference in gloss and protection compared to cheaper waxes :)
-
With wax it's horses for courses, I personally don't think there's any point paying more than £100 for wax , I own 8 different waxes the most expensive being zymol glasur and I love it, the cheapest poorboys nattys which I also rate !
Best bang for buck has gotta be collinite 476s !
-
Zaino or poorboys,Meguires or try Sonax which seems to be getting a lot of good reviews and press recently. :happy2:
Those would be my choice. :happy2:
Waxes are only as good as the prep work before it
-
I've only ever used the entry level wax from autofinnesse and I really, really like it
-
Not the most expensive but my favorite waxes are dodo juice SN hybrid and Collinite marque de elegance you could buy both and take the mrs out for a meal !
-

That's one of the Wax's I was interested in! Nice one!

Yes but can you really? Or is it just because you've waxed the surface and any imperfections have been filled.
It doesn't last very long at all Illusion. It's far more of a glazey product than a protection product.

What wax do you use on your personal car Jay and how often do you top it up?
-
Collinite 476s is all I ever use on my car (for the most part) and it lasted from late August till early January before I needed to top it up.
However I try to wax it at least once a month, because I enjoy it and I like the beading to be strong. But I do a lot of tests on my car using different products and samples, one month I may have carpro Reload on one panel, Meguiars on another, etc.
I'm going to be using CQUK soon as this is probably an ideal coating for me and what I want. It's sat in my drawer unfortunately until I've had some more paintwork on the car! :sad1: otherwise it gets covered in overspray - Plus it actually adds hardness to the paint and in effect another layer of lacquer (even though it's not lacquer, it's the easiest way to explain) so brings about a darkening effect (and thereby increasing contrast and thus the appearance of shine!) :popcornsoda:
A friend recently completed a heavy enhancement detail on a Nissan GTR using Cquartz Finest. The difference before and after the coating seeing it in the flesh was noticeable, however the true quality of the paint came from the polishing. No amount of waxing/sealing would improve the finish without first correcting the paintwork - waxes/sealants/coatings are not miracle products! :surprised:

This is after the coating has gone is still hardening hence the Infrared lamps.

I agree the polishing stage is very important to make the most out of finished product. And with wax I've tried plenty and find myself keep coming back to the same sort of brands as I know I can get the finishe I like from it. HD wax is a nice finish and great value for money but I would have a look at one of the pro series from dodo juice purple haze or blue velvet pro are great waxs, the haze is a softer wax that I prefer out of the two. Or for a more natural wax supernatural I've had fantastic results from. Only thing I would say is anyone you choose following the recommended cure times and for ease of use and finish
-
Collinite marque de elegance approx £25

Don't get suckered into premium products. I wasted £100 on DJ Supernatural and I was sorely disappointed. Quite like the new autofinesse desire.

Which is EXACTLY the same as this just at half the price!
http://www.angelwax.co.uk/?wpsc-product=desirable
Because Angelwax made it and Autofinesse whored it out. Like so many of their products.
-
Didn't know that. Got the Desire at a discount (used cleanyourcar points to get it a lot cheaper) so not as significant harm done. I have tried their interior dressing and quick detailer and they're okay but not massively impressed. I feel a lot of cost goes to the OTT packaging. It's like they're trying to make themselves the new swissvax or something.
I heard rumours that supernatural was just one of dodo juices double waxes (think it was the soft wax). Any truth to this?

Jesus! I did not know that! So it genuinely is, exactly the same stuff just re badged?!
Cheers jay, getting that!!

Well, yes.
Desire was originally a 20 wax run
Desired is this original wax.
The newer Desire is another wax. I don't know who made it. Some people said that it was a copy of the original wax, others say it was a variation of the original, some say it was completely new from another manufacturer.
If you want AF Tough Coat you can also buy that much cheaper from the direct chemical company (Car-chem)

Brilliant! Cheers dude :happy2:

I rate the Dodo Juice waxes, they give great depth but don't last very long. Wolfgang fuzion also gives a very nice shine but again doesn't last long at all

Another vote for Collinite 476S. Used it for the first time yesterday and am well impressed. Takes a little longer than the usual stuff but well worth the effort.
-
Bilt hamber make super products and their waxes are proven. I have a few dodo juice waxes although never used them as the bilt hamber lasts ages
-
I personally like the dodo juice waxes. Just now I have rainforest rub and as much as it doesn't last long I've done easily 20 cars with it and that includes a defender with 2 coats. And I still have just under the half tub left.
Hd wax was lovely.
I don't think waxes last as long as sealers? Correct me if I'm wrong?
-
I like using dodo juice supernatural, but can be hard work to remove sometimes, most of the time I use meguires carnaubo polish , you can do every panel and go back and take it off quite quickly
-
Collinite 476s for me
-
Used to use AG HD Wax but defected to Collinite 476s and haven't looked back since.
-
I like to use r222 wax really easy to work
