Title: liquidTT for the MK5
Post by: freegeek on September 30, 2009, 03:37:19 pm
Hi, I hope you can help with a bit of product development.

There are two things I would appreciate feedback on;

1) The MK5 OBD functionality and
2) Suggestions for mounting options of the liquidGOLF for the MK5

On the first topic, my question is on whether the K-line is implemented on the various MK5 petrol engines, I have tested on a GT TDi and is was there , this means that the current liquid gauge will run on MK5 diesels. if you are not sure what it is, see my A3 TDi here

To test this you would need an old (non CAN) vagcom cable.

On the second, the liquidGOLF Mk4 was designed to be mounted in the side air vent, but many people asked for a centre vent option, so can you feedback on your preference for the Mk5 as I'm just about to get tooling created for the MK5.

The side air vent pulls out easily, the centre vent is a bit more work but still pretty easy.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Advances in technology, pah!

LOL, a clear tongue-in-cheek failure there. I was kidding... I would want it bigger though to be honest, but as a starter it has some good features for sure.

I should have stuck a wink in mine, the unit in my car is the only one with pac-man on it as I don't want to kill anyone.

Prices will be the same as for the Mk4, £170 for the basic kit, £210 for it fitted into the plastic insert for the air vent or £200 for the CUBE hand held/screen mount  unit.

So how far are we off with the MK5 GTI version?

Well, if I can meet up with the contacts above in the next couple of days and it works, I will make the KIT and CUBE available immediately, the air vent insert will be 2 to 3 weeks.

I have the KIT and CUBE up on the web site now for the TDis.  http://racediagnostics.com/store/index.php?cPath=1_35

If it don't work, it will be about 4/5 months.

Hi mate. have been looking at this for quite sometime. Spotted it in the flesh at Star where jim went over what it could. Im in bishopton if you need a car at night or during the day your welcome to come to my work and use the car. im based in south street in glasgow right beside the BVT ship builders.
I think the centre vent would be good as i use the side vent and if you take that away there is nothing else there which is not the case with the centre vent.

Feel free to call on 07710433369

cheers

Iain

i knew something like this would come up after i had got a boost gauge fitted!!! ill look into it some more when it comes out. but it does look like a great bit of kit. As for where it could be mounted. there are quite a few people that have boost gauges mounted in the drivers side air vent. so maybe the centre vent would be best?

How about developing this so that it can be integrated with the MFD2 / RNS sat nav screens?  I would think the processing part would be the same but you just export the video via the aux connections on the satnavs?

i was wondering that, or even be able to integrate the info into a screen on the highline?

Bad news, the test on the GTI TSFI showed that it did not have the k-line so the liquid is not compatible just yet, it seems like its just the diesels and V6s that have it.

The CAN version should be out in 4 or 5 months.

Nuts!

On the plus side, at least when you do get it working you know there's a good market for it, Is there a chance in the next 4-5 months there might be other product development like a bigger screen?

Cheers,

R

Anyone using a liquid in their edition 30 or gti, I'd be interested to know if they can be used as a replacement for exhaust temp/boost/oil pressure gauges or are they more of a gimmick?
